Well-situated on the Aegean coast of western Turkey, Didim has served two very different types of worshipers through the centuries: Those who sought oracles in ancient times, and those who seek maximum sand and sunshine today. The city’s most famous ancient monument is the Temple of Apollo in the village of Didyma, once home to the second most influential oracle after Delphi. You’ll quickly understand modern Didim’s priorities by the names of its districts: Altinkum (Golden Sand), GĂŒmĂŒskum (Silver Sand) and Sarikum (Yellow Sand). Further ruins may be explored at the ancient Ionian cities of Miletus and Priene, north of Didim.
