POST - MAGICAL MAURITIUS- GROUP 2 CODE: MRUL04
Explore the island nation of Mauritius, a tropical oasis known for its gorgeous beaches, botanical gardens, bird sanctuaries and engaging cities such as Port Louis, all of which you will experience.
NOTE: This is an extensive 4-day program that covers a lot of ground both on foot and by luxury coach. There is a lot of driving involved. This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties due to the amount of walking, steps and uneven ground.
DAY 1
Upon disembarkation from your ship, board your coach for a visit to capital city of Port Louis and its surroundings.
The first stop will be at Port Louis’ rightly famous central market, the center of the local economy since Victorian times, is a good place to get a feel for the everyday life of many locals. Watch the hawkers at work and buy some souvenirs. Most authentic are the wonderful fruit and vegetable sections (including herbal medicines and aphrodisiacs).
Enjoy a fascinating cross-section of Mauritian life with a stop at the Caudan Waterfront, one of the oldest malls built in Mauritius. Located on the docks of Port-Louis, it includes many high-end boutiques, duty-free shops, food court and artisanal stalls amongst others.
Contemplate two of the rarest stamps in the world at the Blue Penny Museum - the red one penny and the blue two-pence stamps which were issued in 1847. The museum also boasts a precious heritage collection about the rich history of the island.
Proceed next to La Citadelle perched at 240 ft. above sea level. Also known as Fort Adelaide, this colonial fortress has fulfilled the strategic purpose of guarding the harbor against enemy attacks and fires. Now, it is a major attraction in Port Louis where you will have a magnificent view over the Capital city.
Drive next to the foot of the signal mountain for a photo stop at the Marie Reine de La Paix. This open-air church is where the Pope John Paul II officiated his first Mass during his visit to the island in 1989. The pope Francis also presided a mass at this emblematic site during his visit on 09th September 2019. This Monument was inaugurated on the Feast of the Assumption in 1940.
The last stop will be at Bagatelle, a region that has known a major urban development in the recent years. Its central location, and excellent road network make it a strategic location that has already attracted major brands and global organizations like Peugeot, Bosch, Jaguar, Land Rover, Hyundai, Volvo, Decathlon and the American Embassy. You will have lunch at one of the best restaurants of the area before allowing some time to stroll at the Bagatelle Mall, the leading shopping and retail destination in Mauritius.
You will then be transferred to your hotel located in the North of Mauritius. Dinner will be served at the hotel’s main restaurant this evening.
DAY 2
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then meet your guide in the lobby to begin your sightseeing tour of the north of the island. North Mauritius is famous for its white-sand beaches, lively villages, shopping malls, historical sites and heritage.
Leaving the hotel, you will travel to the seaside village of Grand Baie. The resort village is the most popular holiday destination in Mauritius and offers a large choice of fashion and crafts in the traditional local shops, some operating for almost 50 years, alongside modern shopping centers and worldwide brand shops. You will have a guided visit and some free time to look for souvenirs.
Proceed next to the Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Church famous for its lovely red roof in the village of Grand Gaube. Ideally situated at the very northern point of Mauritius, overlooking the Coin de Mire islet, it offers a picturesque background for worthy snapshots.
Your next destination will be the Domaine de Labourdonnais. a privately owned 540 hectares Estate, which was founded in 1774 and recently opened to the public. The main mansion, Château de Labourdonnais, surrounded its beautiful orchards, was built between 1856 and 1859 by Christian Wiehe where himself and his descendants lived until recently. Christian Wiehe was an influential figure in Mauritius in the 19th century.
Today, the Estate has further diversified its activities offering products and services such as; fruit transformed products, leisure and events activities, real estate services, distillation of rum and much more.
Continue the day at the charming restaurant Le Fangourin, amidst the garden of the old Beau plan sugar estate, to enjoy a meal which is inspired from unique flavors while maintaining a rich Mauritian culinary heritage. Visit the L'Aveture du Sucre Museum a few meters away. It is housed in a former sugar factory where most of the original machinery has been preserved. Following your tour, you'll have the opportunity to sample different sugars and rums.
Your last visit will be at the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens. A must for any visitor, this garden was created by French naturalist Pierre Poivre in 1767. Often called the “Jewel in the Crown”, the garden is known by world botanists for its 500 rare plant species from all over the world.
The most famous are the giant Victoria Regina water lilies and the 80 varieties of palm trees, including the talipot, said to flower once every 60 years and then die. Today the garden houses the “samadhi” (funeral shrine) of the Father of the Nation, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.
Return to your hotel where you will have some free time before dinner in the main restaurant of your hotel.
DAY 3
The next day enjoy breakfast at your hotel and board your coach for the drive to the south. Explore some of the best scenic highlights during this full day tour in the South of Mauritius. This region is the most preserved part of the island with its sandy coves, basalt cliffs, hidden falls, and hundreds of miles of sugar cane fields and dense forests.
Boarding your coach at your hotel, it's a 60-minute scenic drive to the Casela World of Adventures. This beautiful reserve and bird sanctuary of some 25 acres is situated in the west part of the island. Almost 1500 birds of 150 different species are housed in some 90 aviaries, including the Mauritian Pink Pigeon, one of the rarest birds in the world. Casela also houses a variety of animals, such as lions, tigers, monkeys, giraffes, pigmy hippos, lemurs, deer, giant tortoises, Llamas, zebras, ostriches, cassowaries, axis and emus. Its natural setting, spacious layout, and luxuriant green vegetation have made it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Your drive continues further down towards the forest reserve of Plaine-Champagne where you will reach a local restaurant with a breathtaking view over the coastline for lunch.
Traveling along through thick Chinese Guava groves, your route next takes you to discover the magnificent Chamarel waterfall which emerges from the moors on the way down to view the unique seven-colored earths of Chamarel. These unusual mounds of undulating land that stretch in contrasting rainbow-colored layers of earth are believed to be the result of weathering and volcanic origin.
A few meters away is The Rhumerie de Chamarel. Set in a charming chalet, exhibiting tropical and traditional vibes, this distillery will have you learn all you need to know about Rum making. From the growing, harvest, fermentation to the sophisticated distilling process of this eco-friendly agricultural rum. The visit will end with a tasting of 6 rums (classic, double distilled, premium gold, coconut, vanilla, coffee, etc.)
Your return journey takes you down a winding road that unveils the West coast. You will have a final photo stop a Le Morne viewpoint offering a panoramic view over the Benitiers Island and Le Morne Brabant.

POST - MAGICAL MAURITIUS CODE: MRUL02
You will have a final photo stop a Le Morne view point offering a panoramic view over the Benitiers Island and Le Morne Brabant.
