POST - ROME AND TIVOLI TREASURES 2025 CODE: CIVL34
Marvel at the true icons of Rome, including the Vatican Museums, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum and the gardens of the Pope’s summer residence, often enjoying private access to areas off-limits to the general public.
Note: This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or those who utilize a wheelchair or scooter due to the amount of walking, steps, cobbled surfaces and lack of elevators at some sites.
The below represents a sample itinerary. Should a site be closed on a particular day, your itinerary will be amended accordingly so that all sites are seen. Final cruise documents received 21 days before sailing will include the most up to date itinerary for your particular voyage.
Operational Note: For guests on Voyager's October 31, 2025 sailing - due to events taking place for the Jubilee in Rome, there may be unexpected or last minute road closures or site/venue closures. Our ground operator will advise during the program if any changes will need to be made to work around these unforseen closures. We are not able to determine in advance what may or may not be affected. Expect heavier than normal crowds and traffic.
Please advise RSSC no later than 100 days before departure if you are travelling with other guests on this program. This is to ensure that you are placed in the same Vatican entrance group. Once the Vatican tickets are purchased, changes cannot be made. Guests will also be required to show identification when entering the Vatican.
DAY 1
Upon disembarkation in Civitavecchia, you will be picked up at the cruise port and transferred to the Millenium Grand Hotel Palace in Rome. Tivoli or Tibur in antiquity came under Roman control in the 4C BC and it was there that a Sibyl prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to the Emperor Augustus.
Visit Villa D’Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.
After the visit, enjoy some free time to wonder through the colorful open-air market selling all sorts of souvenirs, fruits and local products, then enjoy lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking another one of Tivoli’s sights, the beautiful Villa Gregoriana. Drive back to the hotel.
In time, you will return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and dinner are on your own.

Then, set off for a three-hour guided e-bike tour along the historic Via Appia Antica, one of Rome’s oldest thoroughfares and nicknamed “queen of the roads.”
Back in ancient times, the Appia Antica was lined with monuments to honor the dead. Along the way, you will see the ruins of tombs, mausoleums, and statues. You will even cycle along stretches of the ancient Appian Way that are still paved with the original 2300-year-old basalt stones.
This tour is well suited for those seeking to avoid Rome’s crowded areas. Accompanied by a licensed tour guide, you will discover and explore the authentic Roman countryside, which offers a blend of historical significance, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. During your ride, gain insight into the landscape as it may have appeared more than two millennia ago.
The itinerary features scenic stops at the Tomb of Cecilia Metella and the Tombs of the Fourth Mile as well as entry to significant monuments such as the Circus of Maxentius and Villa of Capo di Bove. In all, this unique and fun experience offers a combination of ancient history, picturesque landscapes, and active exploration.
Following your e-bike adventure, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the bustling city of Rome. Lunch and dinner are on your own.
Notes: Guests must know how to ride a bicycle and will be required to wear a helmet during the tour. Medium level bike riding skills are required. Total ride distance is approximately 25 km (15 miles). The minimum age to ride is 12 years. Closed toe shoes are a must, and we recommend wearing sunscreen and sunglasses and bringing a light sweater. Bring a filled water bottle as water is not included. Bikes are high quality pedal-assist e-bikes. Approximately 60 percent of the tour is off road on park/trail/ancient paved ground and 40 percent on paved roads and bike paths.
DAY 4
Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel. You will then be greeted by your private driver and licensed guide for a comprehensive morning sightseeing tour of Rome, combining panoramic highlights with two fascinating archaeological visits.
Your journey begins with a drive past several of Rome’s most celebrated landmarks, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia, and the Capitoline Hill, with short stops for photos along the way as time permits.
Continue to the Archaeological Site of Vicus Caprarius, often called the “City of Water” where you will descend beneath the modern city to explore the remains of an ancient Roman domus and the network of aqueducts and cisterns that once supplied the Trevi Fountain above.
Next, travel along the historic Appian Way to the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, one of the largest and most important early Christian burial complexes in Rome. Walk through centuries-old tunnels adorned with frescoes and inscriptions commemorating martyrs and popes.
After your guided exploration, return to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, with lunch and dinner on your own.

DAY 1
Arrive in Rome and meet your assistant and driver for a private transfer to your hotel for check-in.
Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure, with all meals on your own.
Located on the iconic Via Veneto, the landmark InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace combines ancient heritage with modern style. Enjoy luxury rooms featuring neoclassical and contemporary design, plus views of Rome’s city center and excellent service for a refined stay. From its location, you can stroll to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Villa Borghese, immersing yourself in Rome’s culture, shopping, and dining.
Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. A sedan will be used for solo guests, which can hold 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.
DAY 2
Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel and then meet your assistant and driver for a transfer to the Pope’s Apostolic Palace, located in the picturesque countryside of Castel Gandolfo. Here you will meet up with your local guide.
Experience a guided exploration of the estate, including a tour of the Pope’s private summer residence. Partake in a hands-on cooking class utilizing fresh fruits, herbs, and produce sourced from the Pope’s own garden and following the class, enjoy lunch accompanied by outstanding views of the surrounding natural landscape.
Afterward, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the bustling city of Rome. Dinner is on your own.
DAY 3
Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to the E-bike location where you will be provided with an electric bike, safety gear, and instructions on how to ride and navigate using these bikes.
Note: there are a few steps along the way.
