Lima was founded in 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on the banks of the Rimac river that forms a splendid and strategically located valley. At 133 meters above sea level, Lima enjoys mild yet humid weather with almost little or no rain. The city of Lima is one of South America’s largest, and is Peru’s center of political, cultural and economic life. Lima is your gateway to the splendid ruins of Cuzco and Machu Picchu, the ancient city in the clouds.

Visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, the most important and impressive religious monument in Peru. Founded in 1579, this vast walled citadel gradually expanded to include cloisters, plazas, narrow streets, tiled roofs, and cobblestone paths. For centuries, it functioned as a secluded convent for nuns from the city’s most distinguished families.

Next, enjoy a walking tour of Arequipa’s UNESCO-listed Historic Centre, including the Plaza de Armas. Known as the “White City,” Arequipa owes its nickname to the extensive use of sillar, a white volcanic stone used in the construction of its churches, mansions, and civic buildings. The historic center reflects a remarkable fusion of European and indigenous architectural techniques, brought to life by colonial masters as well as Criollo and Indigenous artisans.

Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 2 - Friday, March 12, 2027

After breakfast, visit Añashuayco, going back to the past and crossing this narrow ravine whose opening has been eroded for thousands of years by water and wind. During the tour you can rest in the shade on ashlar seats and appreciate the beautiful desert landscape that nature gives us.

After this incredible visit, continue to the district of Chivay, on the outside of the city of Arequipa. Enjoy the beautiful landscape during the approximately 4-hour drive. A box lunch will be provided.

Upon arrival in Chivay, visit the local market and its typical Andean Plaza de Armas and then transfer to your hotel near the Colca Canyon for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 3 - Saturday, March 13, 2027

After an early breakfast, depart very early in the morning towards the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where you will observe the impressive depths of the Colca Canyon, considered deeper than the Grand Canyon in Colorado. This is one of the best places to witness the majestic flight of Andean condors in their natural habitat.

Continue your journey with visits to the traditional villages of Maca and Yanque, home to beautiful colonial-era churches. Along the way, stop at the scenic viewpoints of Wayra Punku and Antahuilque, offering striking panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding landscapes.

Enjoy lunch before driving to Arequipa where you will have dinner at your hotel in Arequipa before retiring for the night.

    DAY 4 - Sunday, March 14, 2027

Following breakfast at the hotel, settle any incidentals and check out. Meet your guide and transfer to Arequipa Airport for a flight to Guayaquil, Ecuador connecting through Lima.

Upon arrival in Guayaquil, you will be met and transferred to the port where you will re-board the ship.

    What to bring:

•Bring comfortable, casual clothing in natural, “breathable” fabrics. Temperatures will change as altitudes and the time changes, so it’s best to bring shorts, as well as long trousers and layered clothing. Religious sites require conservative dress. Both males and females should cover their arms, legs and shoulders.

•Local standards dictate a neat, clean outfit for dining in restaurants and touring urban areas. For men: long trousers and a shirt with a collar. For ladies: trousers or a knee-length (or longer) skirt with a modest top. Formal clothing is not necessary.

•A sweater or lightweight jacket for the cooler evening temperatures.

•A lightweight (preferably non-plastic) raincoat or poncho, and an umbrella.

•Comfortable walking shoes with low or no heels.

•Sunglasses with a strap, sun block, a sunhat, and insect repellent.

    Local Currency:

Peru’s currency is the Nuevo Sol (S/.).

    Electricity

The current is 220 volts AC. In most hotel bathrooms, there is an electrical outlet with 110 volts for electric shavers, but this should not be used for travel irons or hair dryers. Most hotel rooms are equipped with hairdryers. We recommend bringing your own travel adapter for electronic devices if they do not conform to the above voltage.

    Luggage information

For international and domestic flights on this program, it is permitted to check one piece of 23Kg (50 pounds) per person and 1 carry-on of 8Kg (17.5 pounds) per person.

Guests having excess or overweight luggage will be charged upon check in at the airport. Fees: $90 approx. for overweight luggage (up to 23kg) / $90 for additional bags (cost per piece of luggage up to 23kg)

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

1.Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) - Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry a POC. Further paperwork may be required by the airline.

2.CPAP Machine NOT being used in flight – please advise RSSC at least 95 days before your cruise if you will bring a CPAP on the internal flight(s) used in this land program. Please supply the make, model and battery type.

3.CPAP Machine to be used during flight – same as above + a doctor’s note is required mentioning the need to use the machine during flight.

*Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding the CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of your manufacturer’s FAA-approval status will help to quickly clear any confusion that may arise.

    * Failure to provide the above details in a timely manner may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator will be responsible for.

*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, at least 95 days before sailing, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. We highly recommend packing your own supply especially on programs that travel to more remote locations in order to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

This program takes place between Peru and Ecuador.

A passport that is valid at least 6 months after travel is required.

Please check with your local embassy for any visa requirements for your nationality for both countries.

Foreign passengers entering Peru must have a passport valid at least 6 months past the day of arrival in Peru.

Travelers to Peru will receive a card from Peruvian immigration upon arrival stating the length of approved stay (usually 90 days)

    VERY IMPORTANT

Please ensure that all documents are identical in spelling to the names provided for your cruise reservation including first, middle and last name. The above information is subject to change and serves as a guide only. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our guests that it is the ultimate and sole responsibility of the guest to ensure they meet the entry requirements for each destination.

If traveling internationally, the countries you are flying to and/ or connecting through may have different document requirements and as such we encourage you to visit the government and airport websites of every country you will be traveling to throughout the journey to familiarize yourself with their requirements.
