Spend two nights at the stunning Lion Sands Tinga Lodge which is located in the 10 000ha private Lion Sands Reserve. A stay at one of the Lion Sands properties offers you one of the warmest welcomes you could hope to encounter on your travels, hosted by their family of extraordinary, handpicked staff who will make you feel completely relaxed and at home.

Your suite at Tinga Lodge is private with its own plunge pool and deck overlooking the water. From the suites, elevated pathways lead to the spa and the main lodge which houses a bar lounge, library, pool and boma. In the suite you will find a king bed with mosquito netting, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi access, private lounge as well as a bathtub and shower.

NOTE: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour

DAY 1:

Upon disembarkation in Cape Town, you will be met by an English-speaking driver who will accompany you to the airport where you will check in for a flight to Skukuza. Upon arrival you will be met by Lion Sands rangers and driven to the lodge which sits on the banks of the Sabie River. Located within Lion Sands Game Reserve, Tinga is the only private game reserve rooted in both the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Kruger National Park.

On arrival at the lodge, proceed with check-in formalities followed by a light lunch or afternoon tea.

After some time to freshen up and explore your surroundings, return to the main lodge to meet your ranger and tracker for your first thrilling afternoon game drive by 4x4 safari vehicle. As night falls, spotlights will be used when spotting game.

Return to the lodge for dinner.

DAY 2:

Hot and cold beverages will be waiting for you after your early morning wake up call. You will then set off on a game drive that showcases the wildlife and nature of Kruger National Park.

Return for breakfast and free time until lunch.

Time permitting, and with prior arrangement with your game ranger, embark on a bush walk following breakfast.

After lunch you will have more free time - perhaps take a nap, relax by your plunge pool or indulge in a spa treatment. You may also check with the lodge staff for a list of available specialist activities.

Following afternoon tea, set out on another game drive and then dinner back at the lodge. Sundowners will be served when you are out in the bush.

Specialist activities that incur additional fees: Spa treatments, treehouse experience, local community experiences (with More Community Foundation), helicopter flights, golf, exclusive bush breakfasts and dinners. These activities can be set up and paid for directly with the lodge staff.

DAY 3:

Following one last morning game drive, enjoy a hearty breakfast followed by time to gather your personal belongings and complete check-out formalities.

Bid the staff farewell before embarking on a road transfer to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for a domestic flight to Durban (direct flight not guaranteed).

On arrival at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, you will be met by a local tour guide and transferred to the seaside suburb of Umhlanga where you will spend the night.

Occupying a majestic location on the Umhlanga beachfront in KwaZulu-Natal province, The Oyster Box is one of South Africa’s most celebrated hotels. With its remarkable coastal views and gracious hospitality, it has become a cherished seaside destination.

Check-in on arrival is followed by free time to simply relax or consider a leisurely stroll on the beach or a dip in the pool.

Dinner is included this evening at the hotel.

DAY 4

Following a leisurely breakfast and morning, gather your belongings and complete check-out formalities.

Depart the hotel for a 2-hour road transfer to Richard’s Bay where your will re-board.

Expected Weather:

The average temperature in Kruger National Park in November for a typical day ranges from a high of 94°F (35°C) to a low of 67°F (19°C).

What to Bring:

Clothing should be casual and lightweight in neutral, dull colors. Bring also a light sweater and heavier or warmer jacket for early morning and evenings. Dress is informal during the day, with long trousers worn in the evenings. Bring also comfortable closed walking shoes and a hat, camera, bathing suit, anti malaria medication

Electricity:

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels and lodges have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms. If you bring electric appliances, take along an international converter kit complete with a set of adapter plugs. Outlets in South Africa require a three-pronged adapter plug with 3 round prongs. Adapters should be brought from home as not all will be provided. Be aware, however, that overnight recharging may not be possible where generator use restricts the availability of electricity.

Documents and Visa Requirements

Passports are required to be with guests. As per South African law, upon your arrival into South Africa, you need to ensure that your passport has at least two full pages open for passport control stamps.

VERY IMPORTANT – The name on your cruise booking, passport and any visas if required, must all be exactly the same for flight ticket purchase for this program otherwise guests may be denied travel by flight. Please ensure that all documents are identical in spelling to the names provided for your cruise reservation including first, middle and last name. Manifests generated by the cruise line must match your travel documents.

Luggage information:

Guests are limited to a maximum of one 20 kg/44 lb bag on domestic flights, plus one small carry-on (6 kg/13 lbs) that fits under the seat or in an overhead bin. Excess or overweight luggage will be at the expense of each guest payable upon check in for flights.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

1. Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry this equipment with them on their flights.

2. The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type)

3. These documents need to be sent to the Land Program Team via Reservations at RSSC at least one month prior to travel so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).

DAY 1 – December 2, 2026

Depart from Cape Town with our local representative for the airport where you will check-in for a flight to Durban. Flight is not accompanied.

At the airport you will be met and transferred to Phinda Private Game Reserve (4-4.5 hrs.) where you will then board 4x4 vehicles that will take you to Phinda Mountain Lodge. A lunch pack will be provided for the drive.

At Mountain Lodge, natural light streams through the expansive glass windows of the suites while private decks provide breathtaking views of the natural beauty that surrounds the lodge. Each suite features an outdoor shower, well-stocked personal bar and private plunge pool.

In the main area, guests can swap safari stories around the inviting bar and enjoy meals in the interactive kitchen, complete with a pizza oven. A traditional stone and reed boma is illuminated by dozens of candles, and lanterns, and provides the ultimate setting for al fresco dinners. A sparkling rim flow pool follows the natural curves of the mountain, while a new state-of-the-art gym is ideal for fitness fanatics, and a massage sala is available for those wanting to indulge in tranquil treatments.

After check-in, set out for a sunset game drive. This is one of the prime times to view wildlife, as it’s cooler and the animals are more active. While there is no telling what you will observe, the reserve is home to countless animals, including the Big Five: elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo. Herds of elephants are often seen meandering through the fever tree forests, while white rhinoceroses are usually found grazing on the grassland.

Following the game drive, sundowners and light snacks will be served at a clearing in the bush, where you might see nocturnal wildlife. In time, you will return to the lodge for dinner and to spend the evening.

DAY 2 and DAY 3 – December 3 and 4, 2026

Each day begins with an early-morning wakeup call, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits in the lounge. This too is an ideal time for wildlife viewing. As before, you will head into the bush in an open-topped 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by knowledgeable rangers and trackers who are skilled at pointing out the various animals.

You may catch sight of a shy red duiker grazing on fallen leaves and fruit. The elegant nyala antelope is seen even more frequently, as Phinda boasts one of the highest densities of the species. The male nyala has a dark brown coat, yellow legs and shaggy mane, making it particularly spectacular. The female nyala features a less flashy, but no less beautiful chestnut coat. Of course, the Big Five always command attention and they are abundant.

Following your game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by leisure time throughout the day to perhaps take a nap or maybe relax around the rim flow pool. Enjoy a massage treatment or participate in one of the optional activities provided by the lodge.

Optional activities may include bush walks, cultural excursions, conservation experiences and specialist safaris such as birding, photographic, tracking, luxury walking safaris (additional expenses may apply for spa and optional activities and space must be reserved and paid for at the lodge)

Following another late afternoon game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and to spend the evening.

DAY 4 – December 5, 2026

Following one last morning game drive, enjoy a hearty breakfast followed by time to gather your personal belongings and completing check-out formalities.

Transfer by road to Richards Bay where you will re-board the ship. Transfer time is approximately 2 hours. A boxed lunch from the lodge is included for the drive.

Expected Weather:

The summer season (December-February) is probably the most inviting season for guests to visit Phinda Private Game Reserve. The days are much longer, and temperatures can reach up to 30 degrees Celsius (86 F). This allows for an extended time to partake in all the activities offered on the reserve.

Luggage information:

Guests are permitted to check-in one piece of luggage weighing no more than 20kg / 44 lbs. as well as one small carry-on that will fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. For this short trip we recommend bringing just a carry on keeping in mind restrictions for liquids and gels.

What to Bring:

Khaki, brown, white and beige colored clothing (bright colors not recommended for safaris). Light cotton tops and cotton trousers/shorts in summer, safari trousers and warm fleece tops and jacket for evenings and cooler days, rain gear, swimwear, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, Camera film and batteries, personal toiletries, binoculars, windbreakers and mosquito repellent.

Phinda borders on a low-risk malaria area. It is recommended that guests use a mosquito repellent on exposed skin.

DAY 1 – December 2, 2026

Disembark the ship in Cape Town and meet your English-speaking representative. Begin a scenic 4.5 - 5-hour road transfer to your safari destination, enjoying lunch en route in the quaint town of either Robertson or Swellendam.

On arrival at the family owned and privately operated Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, check in and have some time to freshen up before an afternoon game drive.

Each Executive Tent has an elegant interior and 180° river views, fully stocked mini-bar, coffee and tea station, air-conditioning and indoor fireplace, oversized king bed with floating canopy, sumptuous linens, electronic safe, a bathroom with deep oval bath and double outdoor shower and an open-air bed for viewing the starry nights.

Spend the remainder of the morning at leisure or join one of the optional activities such as a horseback safari, available at the reserve. Optional activity choices will be provided by the team at the lodge upon check in. They may incur an additional cost payable directly to the lodge.

Enjoy lunch, after which you may relax within the resort and simply soak up the atmosphere.

Depart on a late afternoon game-drive where your experienced ranger will allow you to make the most of your time in the bush, tracking animals and later enjoying sundowners.

After returning to the lodge, you will enjoy a lovely dinner, and you can once again enjoy some of South Africa’s finest hospitality.

Day 3 – December 4, 2026

Following one last morning game drive (should time allow), enjoy breakfast and time to collect your personal belongings.

Upon check-out, you will be transferred to George Airport for a scheduled domestic flight to Durban via Johannesburg. In Johannesburg you will be met and assisted to your connecting flight to Durban.

On arrival at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your overnight hotel located in the seaside upmarket suburb of Umhlanga.

Positioned between uMhlanga’s famous pier and lighthouse, the Beverly Hills Hotel makes the most of the Indian Ocean vistas with private balconies in every room.

Check-in on arrival and spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 4 – December 5, 2026

Following a leisurely breakfast, complete check-out formalities and transfer approximately two-hours by road to Richard’s Bay harbor where you will rejoin the awaiting ship.

What to Bring:

During early morning game drives in open vehicles, it can be cool. We recommend that guests take along a windbreaker, warm sweater or jacket, sunhat, sun block, swimwear, sunglasses, camera and chargers, and binoculars.

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles, some hotels do have adapters on request, however, to avoid disappointment please bring your respective universal travel adapters.

Luggage information:

Guests are permitted to bring free of charge 1 piece of checked luggage up to 20kg/44lbs with 1 carryon bag 56x36x25cm not weighing more than 7kg/15lbs.

Carriage of CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations):

•If the equipment will be used during any of the flights, guests are required to provide a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type). These documents need to be provided to the Destination Team on board right away so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).

•Failure to comply may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which the cruise line nor our local ground operator be responsible for.

•If the equipment will just be stored in checked luggage, it is recommended that you carry with you the specifics of your machine to the airport as you may be asked during check in to provide details of the machine.

Passports are required to be with guests.

As per South African law, upon your arrival into South Africa, you need to ensure that your passport has at least two full pages open for passport control stamps. Guests should check ahead of time if any visas will be required for your nationality for entry and travel within South Africa. Visas are not included in the cost of this program.

VERY IMPORTANT – The name on your cruise booking, passport and any visas if required, must all be exactly the same for flight ticket purchase for this program otherwise guests may be denied travel by flight. Spend 2 nights on the Madikwe Game Reserve at the luxurious yet laid back Lelapa Lodge. A national treasure, this reserve is full of rare and fascinating wildlife including the famous Big Five. Enjoy up to four game drives led by accredited field guides and trackers with the option to add a very unique and exciting Rhino conservation experience. One night is also spent in Umhlanga at the beautiful seaside Beverly Hills Hotel

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour. Please also review the luggage guidelines as only soft sided bags are permitted on the charter flights.

DAY 1 – December 2, 2026

Disembark in Cape Town and transfer to the Cape Town Airport for a flight to Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo Airport.

On arrival, a local representative will meet and assist you onto a 1-hour charter flight to Madikwe. Meaning “Africa in its majesty”, Madikwe sits in the uniquely beautiful and malaria-free Northwest Province, close to the Botswana border. It is one of the largest and most exclusive private game reserves in South Africa and its malaria-free.

On arrival at Madikwe’s airstrip, a lodge representative will meet and transfer you to Lelapa Lodge. Time permitting, enjoy lunch and then time to settle into your luxury suite.

Each luxury suite offer stunning views of the Madikwe Game Reserve that can be enjoyed from the comfort of a private deck, which includes an outdoor shower and plunge pool. Each suite includes WiFi, a fully stocked minibar (soft drinks, and selected beers, spirits and house wines), and a tea and coffee selection.

If you’d prefer a little more company, you can always take a plunge in the camp’s larger guest pool and take in the sights of the animals doing the same at their very own watering hole just across the lawn.

In the afternoon, embark on a 3-hour safari. This is one of the only places in Africa where you can see Aardwolf, Brown Hyena and Spotted Hyena together in one reserve. Aside from the excellent opportunity of seeing Africa’s Big-5, the Madikwe Game Reserve is also home to healthy Cheetah and Wild Dog populations, as well as Africa’s Secret-7: Aardvark, African Wild Cat, Civet, Large Spotted Genet, Pangolin, Porcupine and Serval.

Safaris are conducted as small groups, with no more than 8 guests per vehicle and are led by FGASA-accredited field guides and trackers. Each sighting has a maximum of three vehicle capacity, while Madikwe also makes allowances for off-roading and tracking through the bush to ensure you get the best possible view of any major sighting.

After what promises to be an incredible game drive, return to the lodge for dinner.

DAY 2: December 3, 2026

Spend the day enjoying morning and afternoon game drives and three delicious meals. During the game drives, keep an eye out for the endangered African wild dog – Madikwe’s signature species.

In between game drives you can relax in your suite, make use of the spa (additional cost), lounge around the pool, go on a bush walk and at night do some star gazing.

For an additional fee payable at the lodge, guests can take part in a rhino conservation experience. Fly by helicopter to track and sedate unrecorded rhino’s on the reserve, gather DNA and notch (tag) them.

DAY 3: December 4, 2026

Following one last morning game drive, enjoy breakfast and then check out. You will be transferred to the Madikwe Airstrip for a charter flight back to O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.

On arrival you will be met and assisted onto a connecting flight to Durban.

In Durban you will be met and transferred to The Beverly Hills Hotel located in the seaside upmarket suburb of Umhlanga.

Positioned between uMhlanga’s famous pier and lighthouse, the Beverly Hills Hotel makes the most of the Indian Ocean vistas with private balconies in every room.

Culinary excellence is savored in style at The Sugar Club, where orchids and ocean views set the scene for afternoon tea and refined dining. At elements café bar, the oysters are fresh, the Champagne is chilled, and there’s nowhere better for sundowners.

Check-in on arrival and spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Relax in the outdoor pool, de-stress in the Mangwanani Spa, head to the hotel gym, or step onto the beach from the private entrance.

DAY 4: December 5, 2026

Following a leisurely breakfast and morning, complete check-out formalities and transfer two hours by road to Richard’s Bay harbor where you will re-board the ship.

•During the day, it will warm up. The game drive vehicles may not be covered – and guests are therefore exposed to the elements. Guests are therefore advised not to forget their sunhats, sun block, sunglasses, as well as their cameras and binoculars.

•The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines and certain parts of the game-drive can be bumpy. Not recommended for guests with back and neck problems or ladies who are pregnant.

•This program is suitable for guests with walking disabilities, providing that a travel companion or spouse accompanies them. Please also note that confirmation would be strictly subject to availability of handicapped rooms at the time of booking.

December, January and February are typically the wettest months in this region with downpours often occurring in the afternoon. Daytime temperatures are usually around 33°C/91°F.
