This three-day program to Kariega Private Game reserve will give you the opportunity to take part in up to four Big 5 game drives while staying at the luxurious 5-star Kariega Settlers Drift Lodge.

    DAY 1 January 19, 2026

Upon disembarkation in Port Elizabeth, meet your driver-guide who will accompany you on a road transfer to Kariega Private Game Reserve. Your journey will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Upon arrival at Kariega’s reception and jetty, check-in and board a boat transfer to Settlers Drift Lodge.

Kariega Game Reserve is a family-owned and operated Big 5 private safari reserve located along the Garden Route, making it the perfect South African safari destination.

This malaria-free game lodge incorporates 10,000 hectares of pristine African wilderness, as well as two abundant rivers - the Kariega and the Bushmans rivers. Experience close-up game viewing of the Big 5 - lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard - as well as multitudes of other South African wildlife from the comfort of a game drive vehicle.

Two beautiful rivers and access to the sea by boat from some of its lodges make this reserve unique. Complement your safari experience with a boat cruise, guided bush walk, relaxing spa treatment or take a canoe onto the river for a quiet paddle. In the evenings, sit back with a sundowner to simply enjoy the tranquil sights and sounds of bush life. The nine spacious tented suites each include an opulent bedroom and living area, full bathroom, indoor/outdoor shower, mini-bar and private viewing deck.

On arrival at Settlers Drift Lodge, a welcome drink will be served, whilst registration cards and indemnity forms are filled out. After some time to freshen up, regroup at the main lodge for well-earned afternoon meal.

Thereafter embark on your first game drive. These are conducted in 4-wheel drive open vehicles, allowing total freedom and giving you the opportunity to smell the African bush and feel as close as possible to the fauna and flora.

Leave the road and track down the Big 5. After dark spotlights are used, giving you the opportunity to view nocturnal creatures and carnivores on the hunt. Sundowners and light snacks will also be served in a clearing in the bush.

After your adventure return to the lodge for a delicious dinner.

    DAY 2 – January 20, 2026

The villa has a relaxed home-away-from-home ambience and is staffed with a private safari guide and vehicle, chef and service staff. The gables, high ceilings, large rooms and wide wrap-around veranda are typical of the Edwardian farmhouses of the region, built at a time when high wool prices and the ostrich feather boom allowed farmers to build stately family homes.

All rooms are air-conditioned and have wide stack doors opening out onto private verandas in indigenous gardens with valley views beyond. Giraffes often come right up to the vehicles out of curiosity. If you are a bird-lover, you will delight in the chance to see raptors, water birds and unusual ant-eating chats probing the termite mounds. • OVERLAND - PHINDA FOREST LODGE CODE: PTEL13

Phinda Private Game Reserve encompasses an impressive 56,800 acres of prime wilderness in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Showcasing one of the continent's finest game-viewing experiences, Phinda features Africa's wildlife at its best. Often described as the "Seven Worlds of Wonder," with its seven distinct habitats, Phinda is home to an abundance of wildlife from the largest lion to the smallest antelope including the Big Five. With multiple game drive opportunities, this fully inclusive program promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1 – January 20, 2026

Depart from Port Elizabeth with our local representative for the airport where you will check-in for a flight to Durban. Flight is not accompanied.

At the airport you will be met and transferred to Phinda Private Game Reserve (4-4.5 hrs.) where you will then board 4x4 vehicles that will take you to Phinda Forest Lodge.

Enjoy a welcome drink while checking in after which you will lunch and then some time to settle into your accommodations.

The spectacular Forest Lodge is set deep in the heart of a rare and beautiful dry sand forest. The eco-sensitive structures of the lodge are inventively designed in Zulu Zen style and the glass walls of Phinda Forest Lodge’s air-conditioned suites offer a sweeping view of one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet. The spectacular suites are cradled in an ambient forest of ancient vegetation, each with their own veranda, they are positioned to ensure complete privacy. Each suite has an outdoor shower and plunge pool, allowing you to savor the outdoors and the fresh mountain air.

Set out for a sunset game drive. This is one of the prime times to view wildlife, as it’s cooler and the animals are more active. While there is no telling what you will observe, the reserve is home to countless animals, including the Big Five: elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo. Herds of elephants are often seen meandering through the fever tree forests, while white rhinoceroses are usually found grazing on the grassland.

Following the game drive, sundowners and light snacks will be served at a clearing in the bush, where you might see nocturnal wildlife. In time, you will return to the lodge for dinner and to spend the evening.

    DAY 2 – January 21, 2026

Each day begins with an early-morning wakeup call, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits in the lounge. This too is an ideal time for wildlife viewing. As before, you will head into the bush in an open-topped 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by knowledgeable rangers and trackers who are skilled at pointing out the various animals.

You may catch sight of a shy red duiker grazing on fallen leaves and fruit. The elegant nyala antelope is seen even more frequently, as Phinda boasts one of the highest densities of the species. The male nyala has a dark brown coat, yellow legs and shaggy mane, making it particularly spectacular. The female nyala features a less flashy, but no less beautiful chestnut coat. Of course, the Big Five always command attention and they are abundant.

Following your game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast and then lunch, each followed by leisure time to perhaps take a nap or maybe relax around the rim flow pool that overlooks a small waterhole. Enjoy an in-room massage treatment or participate in one of the optional activities provided by the lodge.

Optional activities may include bush walks, cultural excursions, conservation experiences, scuba safaris and specialist safaris such as birding, photographic, tracking, luxury walking safaris (additional expenses may apply for spa and optional activities and space must be reserved and paid for at the lodge)

    DAY 3 – January 22, 2026
