Enjoy 5-star accommodation, curated local meals, and professional guides as you discover the rich history and vibrant surroundings of Rome before embarking on your cruise.

    Special Notes:

•This program involves walking distances at times over uneven ground as well as riding a pedal-assist e-bike. It is not recommended for guests who require use of wheelchair, walker, or cane. Day 3 notes for more details on the bike ride.

•Minimum age to participate is 12 years.

•Please advise the RSSC Reservations team when you book this program should you have any special dietary restrictions or requirements. Requests will be sent to our local ground operators for review.

•This is a small group program with no more than 20 guests.

    DAY 1

Arrive in Rome and meet your assistant and driver for a private transfer to your hotel for check-in.

Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure, with all meals on your own.

Located on the iconic Via Veneto, the landmark InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace combines ancient heritage with modern style. Enjoy luxury rooms featuring neoclassical and contemporary design, plus views of Rome’s city center and excellent service for a refined stay. From its location, you can stroll to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Villa Borghese, immersing yourself in Rome’s culture, shopping, and dining.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. A sedan will be used for solo guests, which can hold 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.

    DAY 2

Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel and then meet your assistant and driver for a transfer to the Pope’s Apostolic Palace, located in the picturesque countryside of Castel Gandolfo. Here you will meet up with your local guide.

Experience a guided exploration of the estate, including a tour of the Pope’s private summer residence. Partake in a hands-on cooking class utilizing fresh fruits, herbs, and produce sourced from the Pope’s own garden and following the class, enjoy lunch accompanied by outstanding views of the surrounding natural landscape.

Afterward, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the bustling city of Rome. Dinner is on your own.

    DAY 3

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to the E-bike location where you will be provided with an electric bike, safety gear, and instructions on how to ride and navigate using these bikes.

Then, set off for a three-hour guided e-bike tour along the historic Via Appia Antica, one of Rome’s oldest thoroughfares and nicknamed “queen of the roads.”

Back in ancient times, the Appia Antica was lined with monuments to honor the dead. Along the way, you will see the ruins of tombs, mausoleums, and statues. You will even cycle along stretches of the ancient Appian Way that are still paved with the original 2300-year-old basalt stones.

This tour is well suited for those seeking to avoid Rome’s crowded areas. Accompanied by a licensed tour guide, you will discover and explore the authentic Roman countryside, which offers a blend of historical significance, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. During your ride, gain insight into the landscape as it may have appeared more than two millennia ago.

The itinerary features scenic stops at the Tomb of Cecilia Metella and the Tombs of the Fourth Mile as well as entry to significant monuments such as the Circus of Maxentius and Villa of Capo di Bove. In all, this unique and fun experience offers a combination of ancient history, picturesque landscapes, and active exploration.

Following your e-bike adventure, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the bustling city of Rome. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Notes: Guests must know how to ride a bicycle and will be required to wear a helmet during the tour. Medium level bike riding skills are required. Total ride distance is approximately 25 km (15 miles). The minimum age to ride is 12 years. Closed toe shoes are a must, and we recommend wearing sunscreen and sunglasses and bringing a light sweater. Bring a filled water bottle as water is not included. Bikes are high quality pedal-assist e-bikes. Approximately 60 percent of the tour is off road on park/trail/ancient paved ground and 40 percent on paved roads and bike paths.

    DAY 4

Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel. You will then be greeted by your private driver and licensed guide for a comprehensive morning sightseeing tour of Rome, combining panoramic highlights with two fascinating archaeological visits.

Your journey begins with a drive past several of Rome’s most celebrated landmarks, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia, and the Capitoline Hill, with short stops for photos along the way as time permits.

Continue to the Archaeological Site of Vicus Caprarius, often called the “City of Water” where you will descend beneath the modern city to explore the remains of an ancient Roman domus and the network of aqueducts and cisterns that once supplied the Trevi Fountain above.

Next, travel along the historic Appian Way to the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, one of the largest and most important early Christian burial complexes in Rome. Walk through centuries-old tunnels adorned with frescoes and inscriptions commemorating martyrs and popes.

After your guided exploration, return to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, with lunch and dinner on your own.

Note: there are a few steps along the way.

    DAY 5

Check out after breakfast and transfer to the port in Civitavecchia for embarkation.

After breakfast at your hotel, check out and meet your guide. Depart Rome on your coach for a truly scenic journey (approximately 8 hours) which will take you across the heart of Italy.

En route, enjoy a unique lunch experience along the Adriatic Coast. The venue, located on a Trabocchi (traditional wooden fishing platform), offers breathtaking sea views and fresh local cuisine.

After lunch, continue south, where in time you will arrive in Ostuni, a charming, whitewashed town by the sea where you will have time to relax and enjoy the beautiful seaside atmosphere. Known as "La CittĂ  Bianca," Ostuni dazzles with its maze of narrow lanes, gleaming limestone buildings, and stunning hilltop cathedral that offers sweeping vistas of olive groves and the coastline.

After check-in at your hotel, enjoy a welcome drink and spend the remainder of the day as you like. Dinner is on your own.

Your accommodation in Ostuni, Ostuni a Mare, is a 4-star property offering charm, comfort, and modern design. The property overlooks one of the most picturesque stretches of the Adriatic coast: Rosa Marina, the beating heart of the Dune Costiere Regional Natural Park. Its name refers to a rare variety of wild roses that grow in the area. About 300 meters from the resort, Il Pontile is a private, fully equipped beach, ideal for enjoying the sea in peace. It can be easily reached on foot, following a path surrounded by greenery, or by a convenient little train. Umbrellas should be booked in advance at the hotel.

The Coastal Dunes Regional Natural Park is only 6km /3 miles away. It’s a unique landscape, shaped by sand dunes rising from the sea and home to precious habitats for numerous animal and plant species. The area extends over 40,000 hectares of wetlands, lagoons, coastal forests, and cultivated countryside. Rich in biodiversity and historical heritage, the park offers marked trails and paths for hiking and cycling, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and is perhaps a place you would like to visit during your free time.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and depart for an unforgettable day trip to Matera, one of Italy’s most unique and captivating cities.

Matera is renowned for its extraordinary "Sassi" districts—ancient cave dwellings carved into limestone cliffs, which have been continuously inhabited for thousands of years. These remarkable structures, once homes and churches, now make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offer visitors a glimpse into the area's fascinating history.

The city’s labyrinthine streets wind through striking stone houses, rock-hewn chapels adorned with centuries-old frescoes, and dramatic ravines overlooking the surrounding landscape.

Matera’s unique setting has made it a popular filming location for movies, including Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of the Christ" and the James Bond film "No Time to Die." The city also boasts a rich culinary tradition, with local specialties such as "pane di Matera" (traditional bread) and dishes featuring regional ingredients like chickpeas, beans, and wild herbs.

Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour through the famous “Sassi” and then relax with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where you’ll savor the authentic flavors of Basilicata.

In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to explore before returning to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure and dinner is on your own

    DAY 4

After breakfast, meet your guide and depart for a drive through the Apulian countryside to Alberobello, a town recognized for its trulli, which are whitewashed stone houses with conical roofs and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour through the historic districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, where you’ll discover the unique architecture, local traditions, and charming artisan shops that make Alberobello so special.

After a guided visit, enjoy some free time for lunch in a local trattoria or café—perhaps sampling typical regional dishes like orecchiette, burrata, or focaccia barese.

In the early afternoon, board your bus and head to the stunning coastal town of Polignano a Mare, perched dramatically on cliffs above the Adriatic Sea. This picturesque town is famous for its breathtaking sea views, charming, whitewashed buildings and winding alleys that lead to panoramic terraces overlooking the water.

The town’s history dates back to ancient times, and its old town features remnants of Roman and medieval architecture.

Enjoy a short introduction to the town and then take advantage of free time to explore at your own pace. Wander the whitewashed alleys, visit panoramic terraces, take in the sea views, or stop for a famous gelato or a coffee overlooking Lama Monachile, the town’s iconic beach cove whose crystal-clear turquoise waters are framed by steep limestone cliffs.

Later in the day, reboard your coach and return comfortably to your hotel. A farewell dinner for the group will be served at the restaurant of the hotel.

    DAY 5

Tivoli or Tibur in antiquity came under Roman control in the 4C BC and it was there that a Sibyl prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to the Emperor Augustus.

Visit Villa D’Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.

After the visit, enjoy some free time to wonder through the colorful open-air market selling all sorts of souvenirs, fruits and local products, then enjoy lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking another one of Tivoli’s sights, the beautiful Villa Gregoriana. Drive back to the hotel.

In time, you will return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and dinner are on your own.

  • Embark on a captivating journey where ancient mosaics, world-class wines, and dazzling underground wonders await. From the treasures of Aquileia to the breathtaking caves of Postojna, experience the vibrant artistry and timeless allure of northern Italy and Slovenia.

    DAY 1

After disembarking the ship in Trieste, meet your English-speaking tour guide and begin your journey.

Today you will enjoy a guided visit to Miramare Castle, St. Giusto Cathedral, and a walking tour of Trieste, a cosmopolitan city where seaside promenades, historic cafés, and literary traditions offer a fascinating glimpse into its rich cultural tapestry.

First, travel by coach to the Miramare Castle. Designed in the late 19th century by architect Carl Junker, the estate served as a former residence of the Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlotta.

Following your visit to the castle, rejoin your motor coach for the journey to Colle Capitolino and the Hill of St Giusto. Here, you will visit the magnificent St. Giusto Cathedral. A significant symbol of the Christian community since the 5th century.

Admire commanding views of the city and the old castle of St. Giusto from this hilltop vantage point, before transferring to the heart of Trieste. A guided walk of the city will take you past the Greek Orthodox Church of San Nicolò, the Galleria del Tergesteo, the Piazza Borsa, and the former Jewish Ghetto.

Your pleasant stroll then takes you to the Teatro Verdi, the Café Tommaseo and the famous Roman Theatre. Built between the 1st and 2nd centuries, the impressive theatre accommodated 6,000 spectators.

Continuing on, you will reach the Piazza Unità d’Italia, Italy’s largest square overlooking the sea. Flanked by City Hall, government offices and the Lloyd Triestino Building, the square serves as both a picturesque gathering place and civic center.

From here you will transfer to your hotel for check-in.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure, and lunch and dinner are on your own.

Check-in time is 3:00pm so you may wish to enjoy lunch beforehand.

NOTE: This day involves extensive walking and approximately 70-80 steps, therefore it is recommended that guests wear flat, comfortable shoes. On Sundays, church holidays and during weddings, tour groups are not permitted inside the church. Guides are not permitted inside to give explanations. Please dress conservatively. Ladies must cover their knees and shoulders, while gentlemen must wear trousers. Photography is prohibited inside Miramare Castle.

Your hotel is a stylish 4-star luxury hotel in Trieste, part of the Starhotels Collezione, located on the seafront with views of the Gulf of Trieste, blending historic Mitteleuropean charm with modern comfort, offering elegant rooms and a gourmet restaurant.

A Regent Seven Seas hospitality desk with English-speaking staff will be set up to welcome you. Time and location will be advised upon check-in.

    DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a guided visit to Aquileia, one of Italy’s most important Roman settlements, followed by a wine tasting and lunch at a local winery, where rolling vineyards, traditional cellars, and regional flavors provide an authentic taste of Friuli’s rich culinary and cultural heritage.

Travel by coach for approximately one hour to reach the city of Aquileia. Right from its foundation, in 181 BC, Aquileia was an important port due to its strategic location between the Mediterranean Sea and the Northern lands.

In addition to its reputation as a prominent trading port, Aquileia quickly became known as a vibrant center for art and craftsmanship. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the Basilica, a stunning Romanesque structure featuring an extraordinary 4th-century mosaic floor, the largest of its kind in Western Christendom. Your knowledgeable local guide will lead you through the ruins of Roman excavations, allowing you to experience this invaluable open-air museum firsthand.

The day continues with a guided visit to a local winery, where you will explore the winemaking process and indulge in a curated tasting of fine wines, offering a true taste of the region’s viticultural heritage. This will be followed by lunch, and at the end of the meal drive back to Trieste.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    NOTE:

•The Basilica of Aquileia may be closed without notice for masses and religious services. Bare shoulders and shorts are not allowed inside religious buildings.

    DAY 3

After breakfast meet your guide and set off for a journey across the border to neighbouring Slovenia where you'll visit the famous caves of Postojna.

Once there, start with an electric train that takes you deep into the cave.

After the train ride, continue on foot through the cave’s chambers, corridors, and halls. This part of the tour gives you the opportunity to explore the stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and other natural formations. You'll explore over 20 kilometres of caves and tunnels, carved by nature over thousands of years, leaving behind breathtaking stalactite and stalagmite formations. Sections of the cave are illuminated to create a stunning visual display, highlighting the rocks' translucence and giving the illusion of a cascading wall of water. A carefully designed walking path will guide you deep into the heart of the earth.

Embark on a captivating journey where ancient mosaics, world-class wines, and dazzling underground wonders await. From the treasures of Aquileia to the breathtaking caves of Postojna, experience the vibrant artistry and timeless allure of northern Italy and Slovenia.

    NOTE:

•The ride lasts approximately 10 minutes and covers the initial long tunnels.

•The walking tour of the caves lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

•The walking tour involves uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces; sturdy footwear is recommended.

•The tour is not suitable for visitors in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

•Some sections include stairs and narrow passages, so caution is advised.

•Not suitable for guests with claustrophobia or phobia of dark places/caves.

•The temperature inside the caves is approx. 8 degrees; hence, jumpers and jackets are suggested. It is possible to hire cloaks at the entrance, but there are limited numbers.

•For the sake of their own safety and protection of the environment, visitors must obey instructions of the staff at all times. During the train ride, visitors are not allowed to stand up, lean out, and jump on or off the train.

•No flash photography is admitted inside the Caves.

After the visit, re-board your coach and transfer back to your hotel in Trieste.

    DAY 4

After breakfast, settle any incidentals and check out.

You will have a private transfer to the Venice Airport based on your flight departure time. Should you have a late departure, luggage can be stored at Reception until your transfer time, but guests will be asked to check out no later than 10:00am. *Drive time to Venice airport is approximately 2 hours depending on traffic.

Note: For couples or bookings with two or more guests, a private van will be used for the airport transfer, and a sedan will be used for solo travelers. Vans hold a maximum of four large suitcases and two carry on pieces and sedans hold up to two large suitcases and a carry-on. Should you have more luggage than this, a larger vehicle may be required with a surcharge.
