Land Programs & Hotels

  • Discover the distinctive features of Argentine Patagonia, a region celebrated for its impressive landscapes, encompassing glaciers, mountains, deserts, and coastline. Ascend Mount Frias by 4x4 vehicle and experience Los Glaciares National Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and enjoy a cruise to view the remarkable Perito Moreno Glacier.

    Special Note:

•Due to the adventurous nature of this program and the amount of walking over uneven terrain, we do not recommend it for guests with walking difficulties or for those who use a wheelchair or scooter.

•Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read the airline stipulations below with regards to bringing this equipment on the tour.

•If you have any food intolerances or special dietary needs, please inform us prior to your departure for review by our local vendors. It is important that your land program extension reflects these details to ensure a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, we are unable to make changes to the menu on the day of the meal, so advance notice is essential.

    DAY 1

Arrive at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires. You will be greeted by our local ground team near the luggage claim area and transferred to your hotel for the night.

The day and evening are at your leisure with any meals on your own.

Check-in time at the hotel is 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have the rooms available earlier, this cannot be guaranteed. If you are arriving early you may wish to book an extra night to guarantee immediate check-in.

    DAY 2

After breakfast, transfer to the domestic airport for a flight to El Calafate. Any excess luggage will be kept at the hotel in Buenos Aires and transferred to the ship. Please pack accordingly and don’t forget you valuables, medications and documents.

When your flight lands in El Calafate, you will transfer to the 4-star Xelena Hotel. Located in the southwestern tip of the Argentine Patagonia, this town is known for its easy access to Los Glaciares National Park, home of the spectacular Perito Moreno glacier and hundreds of others.

After some time to settle in and have lunch on your own, set off on a true 4×4 expedition with a skilled driver where you will access the most remote places of Patagonia. Leaving from El Calafate drive to the south and reach panoramic points from which you will contemplate the immensity of the landscape. In view are the Verlika and Baguales hills that mark the southern limit with Chile.

Fossilized oyster reefs, unexplored chenques (Tehuelches burial sites), various native flora and fauna are some of the natural riches that you will see along the way.

Finally, arrive at Estancia 25 de Mayo – an authentic Patagonian house located 800 meters above sea level. Here, enjoy dinner before returning to the Xelena Hotel for the evening.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to Los Glaciares National Park, an expansive protected area covered by an ice mantle. After reaching the Patagonic Andean forest, pause for photos at the Curve of Sighs, a lookout where you will have the first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier rising majestically above the landscape.

Next proceed to the "Bajo de las Sombras" port located 7km from the glacier catwalks. Once there, board a large catamaran style boat to navigate the Lago Rico where you will be able to appreciate the amazing walls of the Perito Moreno Glacier, its icebergs and its continuous and thunderous collapses over the Lago Rico. One stop is made approximately 300 meters (984 feet) from the southern wall of the glacier to take a closer look at the landscape.

Return to the National Park for lunch at one of its restaurants. After lunch approach the glacier by walking down catwalks that will present several other panoramic viewpoints of this wonderful creation of Mother Nature. Chances are, you will see and hear large chunks of ice calving from the glacier and thundering into the water of Lago Argentino. It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

After this day, which is sure to amaze, all guests will return to the hotel, where dinner will be served.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to the airport for a flight back to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you will transfer to the pier for embarkation. Time permitting, enjoy a panoramic tour en route to the port.

    Expected Weather

Seasons in South America are exactly opposite of those in North America. Rain can fall any time of the year. In Buenos Aires, a hot and humid climate should be expected during the summer (December-March). The average high in the summer is 90F/32C and the average low is 65F/18C.

The climate in El Calafate is primarily dry and its extremes of cold and heat are moderated by the influence of Lake Argentino. In summer the weather is dry, sunny, cool and windy; the average temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius (68°Fahrenheit), but it can reach a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius (86°Fahrenheit). Minimum temperatures can fall to 10ºC (50°F).

    What to Bring

Light, loose clothing that can be layered, hiking boots or warm closed toe walking shoes, a warm jacket for cooler temperatures at El Calafate, a hat and mosquito repellant.

    Currency

The official Argentine currency is the peso. U.S. dollars are accepted in many places.

    Electricity

220 volts A.C. (50 Hz). We recommend bringing your own universal travel adapter if required.

    Luggage

The luggage weight restrictions on domestic flights are:

    5kg/11lbs for carry-on luggage

    15kg / 33lbs for checked-in luggage

Fees for excess or overweight luggage will be the responsibility of each guest and payable upon check in for flights.

Excess luggage will be stored at your hotel in Buenos Aires and brought to the ship for embarkation. Please make sure that stored luggage includes a tag with your name, ship and cabin number. Don’t forget to bring medication, valuables and documents with you.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

1.Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) - Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry a POC. Further paperwork may be required by the airline. Please advise RSSC of the specifics at least 14 days before sailing.

2.CPAP Machine NOT being used in flight – please advise RSSC right away if you will bring a CPAP on the internal flight(s) used in this land program. Please supply the make, model and battery type.

3.CPAP Machine to be used during flight – same as above + a doctor’s note is required mentioning the need to use the machine during flight.

*Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding the CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of your manufacturer’s FAA-approval status will help to quickly clear any confusion that may arise.

    * Failure to provide the above details in a timely manner may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator will be responsible for.

*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. We highly recommend packing your own supply especially on programs that travel to more remote locations in order to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

A passport that is valid for at least 6 months after travel is required

Please check with your local embassy for any visa requirements for Argentina for your nationality.

VERY IMPORTANT – The name on your cruise booking, passport and any visas if required, must all be exactly the same for flight ticket purchase, otherwise guests may be denied travel by flight. Please ensure that all documents are identical in spelling to the names provided for your cruise reservation including first, middle and last name. Manifests generated by the cruise line must match your travel documents.

Failure to have the required documents ahead of time or incorrect names on flight tickets will result in either denial of travel or ticket re-purchase and guests will be responsible for any fees incurred.

Flight allowance is one checked bag per person maximum 15 kg/33lbs and one carry on per person maximum 5kg/11lbs. Any excess luggage will be stored at the hotel in Buenos Aires where you will receive it upon your return.

    Day 2

Depending on flight time, either enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel or a boxed breakfast will be provided. Check out, settle any incidentals and store excess luggage. (details will be provided in your Welcome Letter for luggage storage) Meet our guide and transfer to the Buenos Aires domestic airport for a flight to Iguazú.

The name Iguazú translates to Great Waters in Guarani. Standing 80 meters high and stretching three kilometers wide, the Iguazú Falls are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil and consist of numerous cascades that produce a large volume of water spray. This region includes the northeastern part of Argentina, which is home to more than 400 species of birds and features distinctive natural scenery making this one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide and then transferred to Iguazú Falls National Park. A buffet lunch will be served at La Selva Restaurant shortly after your arrival.

Following lunch, guests are invited to participate in a motorized zodiac boat ride offering an opportunity to view the falls from water level and experience the invigorating spray and energy produced by this impressive cascade. Please be advised that participants will most likely get wet while aboard the zodiacs. During the excursion, your guide will provide informative commentary about the local trees, birds, waterfalls, and additional points of interest.

Please note: The zodiac loading area is not wheelchair accessible; access requires traversing approximately 100 steps to and from the boats, with no available ramps. Participation in the zodiac tour is optional, and guests who prefer to remain ashore are welcome to do so. Shaded areas and seating are available throughout the park for your comfort.

After the zodiac tour, check-in at your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax before dinner.

Dinner is included at the hotel.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, please settle any incidental charges and proceed with check-out. Return to Iguazú National Park to experience the remarkable Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), where the Iguazú River cascades nearly 80 metres, often producing vibrant rainbows. Access to this impressive natural feature is provided by the Eco-Train, followed by a 1,200-metre walk along a footbridge leading to the designated viewing platforms.

The final portion of your visit includes a guided walk along one of the established circuits on the Argentine side of the National Park, featuring elevated catwalks and various observation points.

Depending on flight time, either return to the hotel for lunch or enjoy lunch in the park prior to transferring to the airport for a return flight to Buenos Aires.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where you will be reunited with any stored luggage.

In the late 19th century, Buenos Aires became a city shaped by European immigrants, whose children formed the first "porteños." Tango emerged as the voice of urban life, reflecting nostalgia and concerns about changing communities. This evening’s program offers an opportunity to appreciate the artistry of tango in its various forms, featuring distinguished dancers, vocalists, and a tango orchestra. While enjoying dinner, you will experience the music and atmosphere that define the essence of tango.

    DAY 4

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel. After settling any incidental charges and completing check-out procedures, participate in a half-day sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires, showcasing the city’s most notable neighborhoods and attractions.

Key points of interest include the Main Square—Plaza de Mayo—bordered by significant landmarks such as the Casa Rosada (Presidential Headquarters), the Cabildo (Colonial Town Hall), and the Cathedral. The tour continues to Caminito in La Boca, renowned for its vibrant streets and distinctive multi-colored tin houses.

The itinerary proceeds through the sophisticated Barrio Norte en route to Recoleta Cemetery, an above-ground cemetery distinguished by its elaborate mausoleums and statues. The tour will also include Palermo, noted for its grand mansions and expansive parks.

At the conclusion of your tour, you will be transferred to the pier to embark on your ship.
