•In general, hotel rooms in Japan are smaller than hotel rooms elsewhere around the world. Per Japanese culture, standard typical bedding is two twin beds. Although every effort will be made to obtain rooms with one bed for couples, this cannot be guaranteed. Should you require two beds, kindly make sure to advise this when booking your program.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival at either Narita or Haneda International Airport, you will be met outside the customs area and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure, and meals are on your own.

Hotel check-in is available from 3:00pm. Should you have an early flight arrival you may wish to book an extra night to ensure your room is available upon arrival. Your luggage may be stored at Reception while you begin enjoying the hotel’s facilities.

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu is recognized as one of Tokyo's premier Japanese hotels. Situated in the downtown area near numerous shops and restaurants, the property features an iconic lobby designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma. The hotel is adjacent to several prominent landmarks, including the Parliament building, the Japanese Prime Minister's official residence, and the historic Hie Shrine.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. A sedan will be used for solo guests, which can hold 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.

    DAY 2

Begin your day in Tokyo with breakfast at your hotel, followed by a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city. The itinerary starts at Meiji Shrine, a significant cultural landmark surrounded by 700,000 square meters of evergreen forest. This forest was intentionally cultivated to honor nature and serves as a tranquil oasis within the city. Visitors are encouraged to experience forest bathing, take time for reflection, and appreciate the peaceful ambiance.

The tour continues past the National Diet Building, providing an opportunity to observe this notable structure that symbolizes Japan’s parliamentary democracy. Renowned for its architectural distinction and historical relevance, the Diet Building stands as a prominent feature in the center of Tokyo.

Lunch provides an occasion to sample traditional Japanese cuisine prior to further exploration of Tokyo’s historic Asakusa district.

Gain insight into Japanese religious practices at Sensoji Temple, situated in central Asakusa. The temple, dedicated to Kanno—the deity of mercy—boasts a history spanning more than 1400 years. Proceed with a guided walk through Asakusa, including Nakamise street, which retains the ambiance of the Edo period. Take time to browse shops offering Japanese crafts and confectionery.

After visiting Asakusa, proceed to Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in Japan, completed in 2012. Recognized as the world's tallest free-standing tower at 634 meters, it offers panoramic views of the city.

Your tour concludes with a visit to the observation deck, where Mt. Fuji may be visible on clear days. There is also some time to explore Soramachi, a three-story shopping complex with over 300 stores.

Return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Dinner is on your own.

Note: There is a 10–15-minute walk from the bus parking to Asakusa, guests are not able to stay on the bus during this visit.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at your hotel, complete the check-out process and proceed with a two-hour drive to Hakone, a renowned destination recognized for its rich cultural heritage. Upon arrival, visit the historic Hakone Shrine, which has been standing for more than 1,500 years. Situated near Lake Ashi, the shrine is traditionally visited by those seeking blessings for safe travel and family well-being.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, ride the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway, which carries you from the shores of Lake Ashi to the central peak of Mount Komagatake. From the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Hakone mountain range—and on clear days, Mt. Fuji may be visible in the distance. Note: There are stairs to board the ropeway back to the station, which is not accessible.

Next, head to the Venetian Glass Museum, Japan's first dedicated art museum showcasing Venetian glass where you’ll explore the garden and view beautiful glass artwork spanning the 15th to 19th centuries, as well as modern works that have been created using past techniques. Note: Venetian Glass Museum has plenty of seating areas (inside and out) for those who need to rest between walking. There is an accessible toilet available by the main museum building but the door.

Your journey continues to the historic Fujiya Hotel in Hakone, named in honor of Mount Fuji. Established in 1878, the property has endured natural disasters and is recognized for its architectural and cultural significance—several of its buildings are officially protected for their historical value.

After check-in, should you choose, enjoy the traditional Japanese hot spring baths, fed by the Miyanoshita spring, one of Hakone’s seven celebrated springs and ideal for therapeutic relaxation.

Enjoy dinner at the hotel in the evening.

    Note:

Facilities are separated by gender, and guests with visible tattoos are asked not to use the baths. Also, your hotel room features a bathtub with hot spring water.

    Day 4

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and meet your guide in the lobby. After leaving the hotel, there will be a stop at Odawara Castle, which is a three-tiered, five-story structure first built in the mid-15th century. The original building was demolished in the 19th century during the change from the Edo shogunate to the Meiji government, as the castle was seen as a symbol of samurai rule.

The current building is a reconstruction completed in 1960; the moat and stone walls are original, and the top floor functions as an observatory.

Following your visit to the Castle, transfer to the port where you will embark the ship.

Note: There is no elevator, however there are wheelchair-accessible areas and restrooms.

    DAY 2

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a Tokyo sightseeing experience. Board your comfortable bus and journey to the iconic Shibuya Crossing—also known as Shibuya Scramble—famed for its vibrant energy and cinematic popularity. Watch as streams of pedestrians crisscross the intersection, truly the beating heart of the city.

Your next stop is the historic Imperial Palace Plaza, located on the grounds of the former Edo Castle. Surrounded by majestic stone walls, this site was once the seat of power for the Tokugawa Shogunate for more than 260 years. In 1868, it became the residence of Emperor Meiji and remains the permanent home of Japan's Imperial Family. Enjoy a picturesque view of the Double Bridge (Nijubashi), which elegantly connects the entrance to the inner palace and its gardens. Please note, the inner grounds of the palace are not open to the public during your visit.

Continue your journey to the tranquil Meiji Shrine, one of Japan’s most revered spiritual sites. Nestled in a lush evergreen forest covering 700,000 square meters, this oasis was created to honor nature and now serves as the city’s “artificial lung.” Absorb the serenity with a restorative forest bath, taking time to appreciate the peaceful sounds of nature all around you.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, delight in a scenic drive through Ginza—Tokyo’s premier shopping district. Take in the area’s modern and luxurious architecture, providing a glimpse into the city’s stylish urban life.

In the afternoon, step back in time as you explore the historic Asakusa district. Immerse yourself in Japanese religious culture at Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, dedicated to Kannon, the goddess of mercy. With a rich history dating back over 1,400 years, Sensoji is a cornerstone of tradition. Stroll through the charming Nakamise Street, where the atmosphere of the Edo period comes alive. Browse local shops offering authentic Japanese crafts and delightful sweets—a perfect way to experience Tokyo’s vibrant heritage.

Note: A ten-to-fifteen-minute walk should be expected from the bus parking area to reach Asakusa. Guests will not be able to remain in the bus.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at your hotel, prepare for a unique cultural adventure with an exclusive Sumo experience hosted by former professional wrestlers. While not a tournament, this captivating show offers a thrilling demonstration of Sumo, Japan’s ancient and revered wrestling tradition rooted in Shinto beliefs. Witness live matches, discover the rules and techniques of the sport, and even don a Sumo costume for a memorable photo opportunity alongside the athletes.

Following the performance, savor an authentic Chanko-nabe hot pot—prepared by the wrestlers themselves—alongside a delectable Tonkatsu pork cutlet meal. Don’t forget to take photos with the Sumo wrestlers as a keepsake from your visit.

Next, journey to the legendary Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo’s iconic Sumo stadium and the heart of the Grand Sumo Tournament, is held three times a year. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere as you explore the arena’s surroundings and capture memorable photos.

Step back in time at Ryogoku Station, a beautifully restored landmark that blends the charm of Edo-era Japan with modern touches, complete with a full-sized Sumo ring on display.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure offering the opportunity to explore other parts of Tokyo at your own pace.

Please note: Phones must be set to silent during the Sumo show. Vegan and vegetarian meal options are only available upon request prior to the start of your program.

    Day 4

After breakfast, check out and meet your guide in the hotel lobby. Before heading to the cruise terminal, embark on an unforgettable visit to Tokyo Skytree—the tallest tower in Japan and the world’s tallest free-standing tower at an impressive 634 meters. Opened in 2012, Tokyo Skytree offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the city and, on clear days, stunning vistas of Mt. Fuji in the distance.

Continue with some free time at Soramachi, the vibrant shopping complex nestled at Skytree’s base. Discover a one-stop shopping paradise or unwind with a relaxing break at a charming café before you board your cruise.

Check-in time at the hotel is 4:00pm. Your room type provides access to the Executive Lounge.

Although every effort will be made to have the rooms available before this time, this cannot be guaranteed. Should you have a very early morning arrival you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is available when you arrive.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, depart on a half-day tour of the city.

Visit the Edo Tokyo Museum, which offers a fascinating journey through the rich history of Japan's capital, from its origins as Edo during the feudal era to its transformation into modern-day Tokyo. With impressive life-size reconstructions, historical artifacts, and interactive exhibits, the museum vividly brings to life the culture, architecture, and everyday life of the city across the centuries. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in understanding Tokyo’s unique heritage and evolution.

Continue to the Ginza area, one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world. The streets in Ginza are lined with numerous departments stores, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Upon arrival you will enjoy some free time to browse, shop or perhaps visit some of the free galleries.

You can choose to either remain in Ginza and make your own way back to the hotel or return with the group.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will begin yet another half-day tour of Tokyo, allowing you to see the city from a different perspective.

You will first journey to the Asakusa area – part of Tokyo’s Old Town. Visit the Asakusa Senso-ji Temple, which was founded in the early 7th century. Weather permitting, you will enter through a gate decorated with a huge red paper lantern to view the shrine. The architecture is stunning, as this temple is the country’s oldest and one of the most revered. One of the highlights is a walk down Nakamise-dori, known as the “Street of Inside Shops,” an alley lined with vendors selling traditional food, souvenirs, and handmade crafts.

You will have a photo stop at the Imperial Palace Plaza (no interior visit), where Japan’s Emperor and Empress reside. Surrounded by a moat, the palace was formerly known as Edo Castle, and samurai warriors lived there in the 17th through 19th centuries. In the large plaza in front of the palace, you can view the famed Nijubashi—two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks.

You can choose to either remain in the area and make your own way back to the hotel or return with the group.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

After breakfast and check-out, you will visit Meiji Shrine. Dedicated to the Emperor Meiji, the father of modern Japan, the beautiful shrine stands in a dense forest glade of some 120,000 trees of 365 different species, at the very heart of Tokyo. The setting symbolizes the separation of the spiritual from the world. You enter the shrine through twin 40-feet tall Torii gates, one of the largest in all Japan. This shrine is a popular place for traditional Japanese weddings, if you are lucky, you might get to see one.

From the peaceful green oasis surrounding Meiji Shrine you will continue to the beautiful Hamarikyu Garden, an Edo Period Japanese garden surrounded by the Shiodome district’s futuristic skyscrapers. This provides a great example of how Japan is the land of contrasts. The garden was originally built as a feudal lord's Tokyo residence and duck hunting grounds during the Edo Period but later served as a strolling garden and as an Imperial detached palace before eventually being opened to the public in its current form.

Continue to the modern Odaiba area. When the sprawling metropolis, that is Tokyo nowadays, ran out of space, they inevitably turned toward the sea. Odaiba is a man-made island created by massive landfills, featuring many hypermodern and strange buildings memorably described as the result of a Pre-schooler’s architecture class. You will have the chance to enjoy it from above, during a visit to an observation deck, located in one of Odaiba’s most iconic buildings: the headquarters of Fuji Television.

It is then on to the cruise ship terminal for embarkation.

    SPECIAL NOTES TO CONSIDER:

•In general, hotel rooms in Japan are smaller than hotel rooms elsewhere around the world. Per Japanese culture, standard typical bedding is two twin beds. Although every effort will be made to obtain rooms with one bed for couples, this cannot be guaranteed. Should you require two beds, kindly make sure to advise this when booking your program.

•Guests on group bookings are not eligible to earn “Hilton Honors Points” or receive Hilton Honors benefits.

•If you require special dietary accommodation for medical or religious reasons (not simply personal preference), please reach out to the Regent Reservations Team at least 95 days before your departure. Ensuring that your land program extension includes this information helps our local vendors provide a seamless and pleasant dining experience.

•By law, to alleviate traffic congestion, there are designated drop-off points for tourist buses. In many cases these points are a long walk from the entrance of the attraction.

•Japanese culture is unique and conservative and as such loud talking, smoking and eating while walking in the streets are frowned upon

•Guests with wheelchairs or scooters must advise in advance and have someone traveling with them to push, lift and/or carry these items as drivers and guides will not be able to assist. By law guests are not permitted to remain in the tour coaches at the various stops.

    Day 1

Upon arrival at either the Narita or Haneda International Airports in Tokyo, you will be met at the exit of the Custom’s area. Transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Meals are on your own.

Extra luggage may require a larger vehicle at additional cost—notify your RSSC booking agent at least 14 days before sailing with this information. Transfers include driver only.

    Day 2

After checking out of the hotel, you will enjoy a half-day tour of Tokyo starting with a visit to the Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine. Built to venerate Emperor Meiji, who reigned from 1852-1912, it is the largest and most visited shrine in Japan, in part because of its beautiful park-like setting and the fact that Meiji is revered as Japan’s first modern emperor.

Then it’s on to Tokyo Tower, Japan’s second highest structure, which was built in 1958 as a symbol of Japan’s rebirth. After riding an elevator to the nearly 500-foot-high Grand Observation Platform, you will be treated to an astounding view of the city. If the sky is clear, you can see Mt. Fuji.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will be transferred to your Odawara hotel to relax at your leisure. A bountiful buffet dinner will be served at the hotel. However, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy as you please before you spend the evening at the hotel.

    Day 3

Today, you will visit Hakone, a part of the Fuji National Park. Upon arriving at Sounzan, you will board the Ropeway, an aerial tram that affords you wonderful views of the Owakudani Valley. In time, you will stop at Lake Ashi for a scenic cruise. The crystal-clear lake was formed about 3,000 years ago in the caldera left after the volcanic eruption of Mount Hakone. If the conditions are ideal, as they often are, you will see Mt. Fuji and its inverted reflection on the water.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. On the return to the hotel, you will stop at Odawara Castle, which was originally built in the mid-15th Century. The structure was destroyed in the latter half of the 19th century when political power changed from the Edo shogunate to the Meiji government, and the castle was condemned as the symbol of the samurai.

The castle that now stands is a reconstruction from 1960. However, the moat and stone walls are original. The castle is a three-tiered, five-storied donjon, and its top floor is an observatory.

A traditional Japanese Kaiseki (multi course) dinner will be served at your hotel this evening.

    Day 4

After checking out of the hotel, you will be transferred to cruise terminal in Tokyo where you will embark the ship.

•Due to the logistics of this program, it is not available for guests who require use of a wheelchair or scooter and by law guests are not permitted to remain on the tour coaches during stops. Drivers and guides are not able to assist.

Land Program Details Step by Step:

Be aware that the representative may be assisting others and may not be in sight when you first exit Customs and the luggage claim area.

•Look for someone holding a sign with the cruise line logo and possibly your name. If in doubt, ask the airport staff to direct you to the meeting area for transfers or to page our representative.

•Meet and Greet and transfers are arranged for guests arriving on Day 1 of a land program or for extra nights booked through the cruise line and are arranged based on the flight details received by guests at least 14 days before sailing. Guests arriving independently before the program start date will not have a transfer included.

•If we have not received your flight details or your flights have changed, and the Destination Services Land Team has not been notified, then a transfer cannot be provided, and guests will be responsible for getting to the land program hotel at their own expense. Day 1 - May 19, 2027

After disembarking the ship in Whittier, meet your tour director and begin the scenic drive to Girdwood. The road you will travel passes through some of America’s most spectacular scenery and holds three scenic designations: USDA Forest Service Scenic Byway, Alaska Scenic Byway, and All-American Road. On the way, enjoy a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, an organization dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife. The center is a home and a refuge for many animals; bears, moose, elk, and other wildlife that call Alaska home.

Upon arriving at the Hotel Alyeska and checking in, enjoy a ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska on the aerial tramway (ticket included) for a spectacular view of the surrounding area with its seven glaciers. The rest of the day and evening are to enjoy as you please. Lunch and dinner are on your own. Insiders Tip: the outdoor Nordic Spa at the resort is wonderful! Advance reservations are recommended.

    Day 2 - May 20, 2027

After breakfast at the hotel, begin your scenic tour from Girdwood to Denali via the George Parks Highway, which winds through the kind of scenery that defines the Alaskan interior: tundra, soaring mountain peaks, glaciers, forests, wild rivers, and vast expanses primarily inhabited by animals such as moose, grizzlies, foxes and birds. In time, you will visit an Iditarod Sled Dog Kennel and learn about this truly Alaskan competition.

Traveling from Anchorage to Nome on the Bering Sea coast, each Iditarod team of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher cover 1,150 miles of Alaska’s most rugged terrain in 10 to 17 days. Add temperatures well below zero, scouring winds, and long hours of darkness, and it is no wonder that the Iditarod is called the last Great Race on Earth.

Enjoy a brief panoramic drive through Anchorage en route and once you reach Denali, you will be transferred to the Grande Denali Lodge, which perches on the edge of a bluff less than a mile from the entrance to Denali National Park.

Following an enlightening private lecture on Denali, your evening is free to enjoy dinner on-own and an overnight at the lodge.

    Day 3 - May 21, 2027

The day starts with an early breakfast at your hotel and then a 4–5-hour Denali Natural History Tour which focuses on the rich natural and cultural history of Denali National Park. Along the way, your naturalist driver-guide will provide a great introduction to the landscape, geology, and history of the Denali National Park and Preserve. Several interpretive stops along the way enhance the tour.

Beginning with a stop at the Denali Bus Depot, learn about the creation of the Denali Park Road with the film “Across Time and Tundra.” Next, visit the historical Savage Cabin to learn how the cabin was once used, and how it continues to be used today. Finally, a stop at Primrose Ridge to experience a memorable Alaska Native presentation that will enlighten you with how the land has been used for nearly 10,000 years.

Note: Tours are conducted in Denali National Park buses which are similar to school buses.

Upon returning to the lodge, enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. The excursion team at the hotel or your Tour Director can provide you with a list of options (at own cost) that will be available during your stay. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

    Day 4 - May 22, 2027

After a leisurely breakfast, check out mid-morning and transfer to the Denali Railroad depot where you will board an Alaska Railroad train. As you travel the 4.5 hours to Talkeetna, seating is upstairs in the Dome car where you will enjoy views from all sides of the railcar and lunch is included downstairs in the dining room. Arrive in the town of Talkeetna, whose downtown is a National Historic Site.

Continuing south by coach, you will drive to Anchorage and check-in at the Marriott Hotel in Anchorage. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy as you please. Dinner is on your own.

    Day 5 - May 23, 2027

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the Anchorage airport for your flight to Juneau, Alaska. Transfer from Juneau Airport to your cruise ship is included.

    Luggage information

We suggest guests bring a carryon bag with them for this short program. Any checked luggage will be subject to airline fees payable at the time of check-in. Please keep in mind the general aviation rules for liquids in a carry-on.

    Alaska Airlines Baggage Policy:

One carry-on bag is permitted at no fee, which, including wheels and handles, can measure up to 24 inches in length x 17 inches in width x 10 inches in height (61 x 43 x 25 cm), plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop computer.

*Please refer to the Alaska Airlines website for information on fees for checking luggage on the flight as this information is subject to change. Generally, the charge is $35 for the first checked bag and $25 for a second bag however if you are a Club 49 member or American AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum, and Gold Elite Level members, different rules may apply.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

    1. Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) - Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry a POC. Further paperwork may be required by the airline.

    2. CPAP Machine NOT being used in flight – please advise RSSC at least 95 days before your cruise if you will bring a CPAP on the internal flight(s) used in this land program. Please supply the make, model and battery type.

    3. CPAP Machine to be used during flight – same as above + a doctor’s note is required mentioning the need to use the machine during flight.

*Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding the CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of your manufacturer’s FAA-approval status will help to quickly clear any confusion that may arise.

    * Failure to provide the above details in a timely manner may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator will be responsible for.

*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, at least 95 days before sailing, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. We highly recommend packing your own supply especially on programs that travel to more remote locations in order to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

Please bring your valid passport with you on this trip. Guests will be required to show identification when boarding the flight.

*We will only source different hotels in unforeseen situations. If similar hotels are required, they will be of equal ratings and standards, and you will be notified of the change.
