•As this is an active program that takes place at high altitudes, we strongly recommend that all guests should consult with their physician regarding their ability to participate prior to signing up.
Arequipa - 7,700 ft (2,340 m) / Lake Titicaca 12,507 feet (3,812 meters) above sea level.
•Please advise the RSSC Reservations team when you book this program should you have any special dietary restrictions or requirements. Requests will be sent to our local ground operators for review.
DAY 1
Disembark the ship in Lima and transfer to the airport for a scenic flight from Lima to Arequipa, affectionately known as “The White City.” As you soar over the dramatic Peruvian landscape, anticipate the wonders that await in this storied, sunlit destination. Upon landing, you will be greeted and transferred to the heart of Arequipa, where your immersive exploration begins.
Your first stop is the enchanting colonial district of Yanahuara. Meander through its labyrinth of narrow, cobblestone lanes, lined with charming houses constructed from gleaming white volcanic stone, or sillar—an iconic feature that lends Arequipa its distinctive allure.
Pause in Yanahuara’s tranquil plazas to enjoy panoramic vistas of the city’s magnificent trio of volcanoes: the imposing Misti, the snow-capped Chachani, and the rugged Pichu Pichu. The viewpoint from Yanahuara is a photographer’s dream, offering breathtaking scenes of both natural and man-made beauty.
The journey continues as you make your way into Arequipa’s vibrant city center. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, savoring the region’s renowned cuisine, perhaps sampling traditional dishes that reflect the city’s rich culinary heritage.
Next, step into history with a visit to the renowned Santa Catalina Monastery. Founded in 1579, this vast and architecturally stunning complex is considered the most significant and impressive religious monument in Peru. Wander through its maze-like corridors, peaceful cloisters, secluded plazas, and vibrant courtyards. Marvel at the monastery’s brilliantly painted walls, tile roofs, and cobbled pavements, all enclosed within its protective walls. For centuries, this citadel provided a secluded sanctuary for nuns from Arequipa’s most distinguished families, offering a glimpse into their unique way of life and spiritual devotion.
Your afternoon unfolds with a guided walking tour of Arequipa’s UNESCO-listed Historical Centre. Stroll through the iconic Plaza de Armas, a bustling hub framed by elegant colonial arcades and crowned by the grand cathedral. Here, the city’s history comes alive, with each building showcasing the masterful blend of European influences and indigenous craftsmanship.
As the sun sets over the city, transfer to your comfortable hotel for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay, surrounded by the warm hospitality and timeless beauty of Arequipa. Your adventure in southern Peru has only just begun.
NOTE: Guests can only bring one suitcase and a carry-on bag for the next few days. For this reason, excess luggage will be collected as soon as you disembark the ship and stored in Lima until your return. Please make sure to label and lock any excess for storage and take with you any medications, valuables and documents. Please make sure luggage is packed accordingly prior to disembarking as there will not be time on the pier to do this in the morning.
DAY 2
After breakfast, embark on a fascinating excursion to the Añashuayco Quarry, a geological marvel situated just outside Arequipa. Step back in time as you journey through this dramatic, narrow ravine, its entrance sculpted over millennia by the persistent forces of water and wind.
As you explore, take a moment to relax on benches carved from ashlar—a distinctive white volcanic stone that gives Arequipa its nickname, “The White City”—and soak in the serene desert vistas that surround you. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into the region’s natural history and traditional stonework, providing the perfect blend of nature and culture.
Continuing your adventure, set out on a scenic drive to the charming district of Chivay, located on the outskirts of Arequipa and renowned as the gateway to the breathtaking Colca Canyon. Enjoy approximately four hours of travel through the stunning Andean highlands, where sweeping views of terraced fields, snow-capped volcanoes, and rustic villages create a constantly changing panorama worthy of countless photographs. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the region’s unique flora, fauna, and rich cultural traditions.
Upon arrival in Chivay, immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture with a visit to the bustling market, where locals gather to sell fresh produce, handicrafts, and traditional food. Take time to stroll through the town’s picturesque Plaza de Armas, the heart of Chivay, adorned with colorful flowers and overlooked by charming colonial architecture. Here, you’ll experience the authentic atmosphere of an Andean town nestled in the mountains.
As evening draws near, transfer to Las Casitas, a luxurious Belmond Hotel set on the edge of the Colca Canyon. Surrounded by tranquil gardens and majestic canyon views, this exquisite retreat offers comfort and elegance after your day’s adventures. Savor a gourmet dinner featuring regional specialties, then unwind and enjoy a restful overnight stay, preparing for the next chapter of your remarkable Peruvian journey.
DAY 3
Following a hearty breakfast, embark on an early morning journey to the renowned Cruz del Cóndor, one of the Colca Canyon’s most spectacular vantage points. Here, marvel at the dramatic depths of the canyon—widely recognized as deeper than the famed Grand Canyon and witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of Andean condors soaring gracefully overhead. The sight of these majestic birds gliding effortlessly against the immense backdrop of rugged cliffs and sweeping vistas is truly unforgettable, offering a rare glimpse into the wonders of Peru’s natural heritage.
Your adventure continues with visits to the charming villages of Maca and Yanque, where you’ll step back in time as you explore beautiful colonial-era churches adorned with intricate baroque facades and traditional artwork. Stroll through picturesque plazas lined with vibrant flowers and interact with friendly locals, immersing yourself in the authentic atmosphere of these quaint Andean towns. Along the route, pause at breathtaking viewpoints such as Wayra Punku and Antahuilque, where panoramic vistas reveal ancient agricultural terraces and the dramatic contours of the canyon landscape—perfect for capturing memorable photographs.
After this exhilarating trek through the heart of Colca Canyon, your journey continues eastward toward Puno, gateway to the legendary Lake Titicaca. Enjoy a box lunch served en route through the ever-changing scenery of Peru’s highlands.
Upon arrival in Puno, transfer to the elegant GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca, where you will be treated to dinner and a restful overnight stay. Surrounded by serene lakeside views and exceptional hospitality, you’ll be perfectly poised for the next chapter of your adventure in southern Peru.
DAY 4
Begin your day with a hearty early morning breakfast before setting out on a truly extraordinary cultural adventure across Lake Titicaca. Your first stop is the iconic floating Uros Islands—an enchanting archipelago ingeniously constructed entirely from totora reeds that flourish in the lake’s shallow waters.
Step ashore and discover how the Uros people have preserved their unique way of life for centuries, living atop handwoven reed platforms and crafting everything from homes to boats with these versatile plants.
Next, glide across the shimmering expanse of Lake Titicaca to reach Amantani Island, renowned for its tranquil landscapes and vibrant Indigenous heritage. Upon arrival, embark on a scenic walk around the island’s rolling hills and terraced fields—a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in centuries-old local customs and witness daily life in one of Peru’s most authentic communities.
For lunch, savor a home-cooked meal prepared by a welcoming Amantani family for an unforgettable taste of Andean hospitality and tradition.
In the afternoon, embrace the island’s spiritual legacy with a leisurely visit to Koanos Hill, where you’ll find the semi-subterranean Temple of Pachatata perched at the summit. According to archaeological research, this sacred temple was built by the pre-Inca Pukara and Chiripa cultures to honor fertility and the generative power of the land—a tradition that continues to shape Indigenous beliefs today.
Depending on your energy and interests, you may choose to continue hiking to Llaquistiti Hill, home to the revered Temple of Pachamama, which also pays homage to Mother Earth and the cycles of nature.
These sacred sites—known to locals as Apus, or “spirits of the hills”—hold deep spiritual significance for the Indigenous communities of Lake Titicaca.
Here, age-old ceremonies and offerings are still performed to seek blessings from the earth, natural elements, and ancestral spirits, creating a profound connection between past and present. As you explore these mystical places, take time to absorb the tranquil atmosphere, panoramic lake views, and the powerful energy that has drawn travelers for generations.
After a fulfilling day of discovery, return to your lakeside hotel for a delicious dinner featuring local flavors. Relax and unwind in comfort, reflecting on your unforgettable journey through the heart of Peru’s living culture before settling in for a restful overnight stay.
DAY 5
After flying back to Lima, transfer to your centrally located hotel where you will check in for your last night.
Upon arrival, the remainder of the day is at leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.
DAY 6
Following breakfast at the hotel, settle any incidentals and check out. Your private transfer to Lima’s International Airport will be booked in accordance with your flight time. Check out time at the hotel is at 12:00pm but should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at Reception until your transfer.
Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer guests between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.

Discover the wonders of ancient Peru, where mystical Inca ruins crown lush mountain peaks including famed Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, and other ancient temples. From Cusco’s legendary stonework to the breathtaking heights of Machu Picchu, embark on a journey where every moment is steeped in history, beauty, and unforgettable adventure.
Special Notes:
•Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
•This program involves walking distances at times over uneven ground. It is not recommended for guests who require use of wheelchair, walker or cane. Wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated.
•As this is an active program that takes place at high altitudes, we strongly recommend that all guests should consult with their physician regarding their ability to participate prior to signing up.
•Please advise the RSSC Reservations team when you book this program should you have any special dietary restrictions or requirements. Requests will be sent to our local ground operators for review.
Please ensure passport details are added to your cruise booking when this program is reserved so that Machu Picchu entry tickets can be purchased. Please verify the expiry date – passports must be valid for at least six months after travel in order to enter Peru.
DAY 1
Disembark the ship in Lima and meet your guide. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then embark on a city tour. Visit the splendid Baroque-style Cusco Cathedral, built in the mid-1500s on the foundations of an Inca palace. Many of the stones used in its construction were looted from the nearby Sacsayhuaman fortress.
Continuing, your next stop is the sacred site of Koricancha. Here, admire the lovely Dominican Convent of Santo Domingo that was built on the foundations of the Temple of the Sun, the most sumptuous temple in the Inca Empire. The curved, mortar-less masonry wall at the west end of the church is one of the greatest existing examples of Inca stonework.
Then, visit the Sacsayhuaman fortress. Strategically located on a hill overlooking Cusco, the fortress was constructed without mortar like many other Inca structures, yet the enormous stones (some weighing 200 tons) of the remaining walls fit so tightly that not even a thin blade of grass can slide between them. The craftsmanship is a stunning example of the Inca’s sophisticated construction techniques and architectural skills.
Following your city and sights tour, check into The Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel. Dinner is included at the hotel this evening. Your Deluxe Room is enriched with oxygen to promote better sleep and faster adjustment to the high altitude.
Luggage: We strongly suggest traveling to Machu Picchu with just an overnight bag. Any excess luggage will be taken from the pier and stored at the hotel in Lima where you will be reunited with it Day 3. Please bring medications, documents and valuables with you. Please pack accordingly prior to disembarking the ship as there will not be time on the pier to sort through your luggage.
DAY 2
Following breakfast, you will drive to the train station and board the deluxe First Class Train. Brunch will be served during the journey, as you take in the spectacular Andean scenery.
Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, you will drive to the ruins of Machu Picchu to explore the famous “Lost City of the Incas.” Constructed as a royal retreat for the Inca emperor Pachacuti in the 1400s, Machu Picchu was abandoned less than 100 years later, its population probably devastated by smallpox. Because the Spanish conquistadors never found this hidden city, Bingham discovered it largely intact.
Architectural highlights include the Temple of the Sun, designed much like the one in Cusco, several other temples, hundreds of terraces, and a mysterious carved stone situated on a raised platform that towers above the plaza. The stone may have been used for astronomical observations, but no one knows for certain. The Inca had no written language, so there is no record of Machu Picchu’s ultimate purpose. Scholars are still striving to uncover clues as to its mysteries.
After visiting Machu Picchu, board the Hiram Bingham Train for the journey back to the Rio Sagrado Train Station. Dinner is included on board the train. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Note: Machu Picchu stands at approximately 2,450 m above sea level, and Cuzco at 3,400 m. At these heights, there’s 20 per cent less oxygen in the air. In the vast majority of cases, symptoms of altitude sickness are very mild (a little sleepiness or a slightly foggy head) and wear off after a day or two, but it can make doing anything energetic feel like a struggle. It is recommended that you speak to your physician prior to signing up to discuss any potential side effects based on your medical history.
DAY 3
After flying back to Lima, transfer to your city-based hotel.
The remainder of the day is at leisure, with lunch and dinner on your own.
DAY 4
Following breakfast at the hotel, settle any incidentals and check out. Your private transfer to Lima International Airport will be set up in accordance with your flight time. Check out time at the hotel is 12:00pm. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at Reception until your transfer.

DAY 1
Following disembarkation from the ship in Lima, transfer to the airport for a flight to Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios. Here, begin with a one-hour road trip followed by a peaceful one-hour boat ride along the Tambopata River. As you travel deeper into the heart of the rainforest, you will enjoy your first taste of Amazonian cuisine during the journey.
Note: Guests can only bring one carry-on bag for the next few days. Luggage is limited to 15 kg (33 lbs.) per person. For this reason, excess luggage will be collected when you disembark and stored in Lima until your return. Please make sure to label and lock any excess for storage and take with you any medications, valuables and documents. Since you will only have a carry on, please keep in mind airline rules for liquids and aerosols in carry on bags.
Reaching the riverbank, you will be required to climb a staircase whose length varies with the season/tide, followed by a short walk through the vibrant Amazon rainforest. This journey marks the beginning of your stay, immersing you in the wonders of the Peruvian Amazon.
Arrive at Refugio Amazonas, a cozy and comfortable ecolodge set in the heart of a chestnut forest, complete with a bar, massage room, and dining service. Located at the edge of the Tambopata National Reserve, this lodge also features a research station for the Wired Amazon program, a pioneering citizen science initiative that involves guests in rainforest research. Here you will find the following ongoing research: Aerobotany, AmazonCam, and Discovering New Species which you can be a part of during your stay.
Settle into your room, which includes mosquito nets over the beds, a private bathroom, and an open window facing the forest to maximize your connection with nature (there is no hard window – rooms are open to the forest). Please see their website for photos. Rooms include private bathroom with hot shower and eco-friendly toiletries including biodegradable shampoo, conditioner, and liquid soap as well as an umbrella, so you do not need to bring these with you, saving space in your travel bag.
The open and spacious rooms offer lots of natural light and fresh air while providing safe but close contact with the forest environment. The three-wall rooms allow you to connect with nature, but not to worry as it’s stated that nothing will enter your room. The lodge and rooms are 3 meters away from the forest and 1 meter and half above the ground.
Your stay includes three daily meals, teas, coffee, guided excursions and activities, a welcome drink upon arrival.
In the afternoon, take a short walk to the 40-meter-high Canopy Tower. A safe staircase leads to the top, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Tambopata National Reserve’s dense forest. Watch for toucans, macaws, and raptors soaring through the canopy.
Before dinner, attend a night lecture by Wired Amazon researchers, who will share insights into ongoing projects and the crucial role of citizen science in rainforest conservation.
After dinner, join the Discovering New Species activity. Venture to the night light trap with researchers to explore the forest and potentially discover new species, contributing to the area's rich biodiversity.
DAY 2
Begin your day early with a visit to the Macaw Clay Lick, a must-see spectacle of Amazon wildlife. On clear mornings, dozens of large macaws and hundreds of parrots gather on the riverbank, creating a vibrant display of color and sound. Watch discreetly as Green-winged, Scarlet, and Blue-and-gold Macaws, along with smaller parrots, descend to ingest clay. This activity occurs at dawn, when the clay lick is most active.
In the afternoon, consider participating in AmazonCam, where you’ll set up camera traps along the trail to the Amazon farm. This activity provides a unique opportunity to capture images of elusive wildlife, aiding researchers in monitoring animal populations and behavior.
Visit a local Amazon farm, where you’ll explore a variety of crops grown by the community. Learn about sustainable agriculture in the Amazon and discover how nearly every plant and tree serves a purpose, reflecting the deep connection between the local people and the land.
DAY 3
Explore the Brazil Nut Forest, located near the lodge, and learn about the origins of this key Amazonian product. Visit a Brazil nut camp to see the towering chestnut trees and understand how local communities harvest the nuts once a year during the rainy season. The Brazil nut is a significant source of income for the local population, making it one of the most impactful sustainable activities in the region.
In the afternoon, you have a few options to enrich your experience:
Aerobotany + Oxbow Lake: Fly a drone to capture stunning aerial photographs of the canopy crowns on your way to Lake Condenado. This activity offers a unique bird’s-eye view of the Amazon and insights into the forest’s complex ecosystem.
AmazonCam + Medicinal Plant Trail: Set camera traps along the trail to capture elusive wildlife, then explore the Medicinal Plant Trail to learn about traditional healing practices. Discover various plants like Sacha-Ajos, Uña De Gato, and Ayahuasca, used for centuries by local communities to heal the body and soul.
DAY 4
Your Amazon adventure concludes with a return to Puerto Maldonado where you will take a flight to Lima. You are sure to leave with unforgettable memories and the knowledge that your visit directly supports the Wired Amazon program and its mission to conserve the Tambopata National Reserve's biodiversity.
After flying back to Lima, transfer to the Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, a five-star hotel in the heart of Lima.
After checking in, the remainder of the day is at your leisure and meals are on your own.
DAY 5
Following breakfast at the hotel, settle any incidentals and check out. Your private transfer to Lima’s International Airport will be booked in accordance with your flight time. The check-out time at the hotel is at 12:00pm but should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at Reception until your transfer.
Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer guests between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. Please remember that when walking inside the lodge facilities and in order to prevent bringing mud inside, you must take out your boots or muddy shoes. They suggest using sandals, clean sneakers, slippers, or socks. During the rainy season, the corridors to your rooms get wet, so they recommend bringing light anti-slip slippers to avoid getting your socks wet.
Note: Leishmaniasis is present throughout the rain forests of southeastern Peru. It is a skin lesion caused by a protozoan transmitted by a certain kind of small biting fly. There is no vaccination against it, but it is curable in every case. Leishmaniasis is also very easy to prevent by wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants, and repellent on exposed skin at all times, and sleeping under mosquito nets. If you are interested in receiving complete information on leishmaniasis please directly contact the lodge before your trip. Malaria is present but extremely rare. If you wish to take medical precautions against malaria consult your physician or a specialist in tropical medicine prior to travel.

Most hotel rooms are equipped with hairdryers. We recommend bringing your own travel adapter for electronic devices if they do not conform to the above voltage

DAY 1
This morning, embark on a marine excursion to the Palomino Islands, lying just off the port of Callao. These rocky islets are alive with wildlife: colonies of sea lions bask on the sun-warmed rocks or dive playfully into the waves, while cormorants, pelicans, and other seabirds sweep across the skies. The dramatic cliffs and crisp ocean air make this a refreshing escape so close to the city.
Back on shore, continue to Monumental Callao, a historic quarter reborn through art and creativity. Colorful murals, design studios, and contemporary galleries tell the story of a neighborhood transformed by culture.
For those who wish, an optional Afro-Peruvian masterclass invites you to go beyond observation—learning the rhythms of the cajón, the steps of the zapateo, and the stories behind these traditions. Afterward, proceed to the port of Lima where the program comes to an end and you will embark your ship.
Before checking in at your hotel for an afternoon at leisure, pause at a seaside restaurant perched along the cliffs of Miraflores to enjoy lunch and your first taste of Lima’s world-renowned gastronomy.
The InterContinental Lima Miraflores Hotel is a modern five-star property, ideally located next to Larcomar, Lima’s famous oceanfront shopping and dining center. During your stay, enjoy exclusive access to the Club Floors and their dedicated amenities.
Note: Keep passports handy as they will be required to be shown when visiting the Palomino Islands. A Waiver Form will also need to be filled out.
DAY 2
Following breakfast at the hotel meet your guide to visit to Lima’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where grand plazas and baroque facades tell stories of the Spanish conquest and the viceroyal era.
Walking through its elegant streets, visit churches and landmarks that have shaped the “City of Kings.” Your journey continues at Casa De Aliaga, the oldest residence in the Americas still inhabited by the same family for 17 generations, where courtyards, a private chapel, and salons bring Lima’s past vividly to life.
Afterward, return to the hotel for some rest and time to enjoy lunch at leisure.
In the evening, head to the Museo Larco, housed in an 18th-century mansion and celebrated for its outstanding pre-Columbian collection. The visit is enriched by a private curatorial encounter, offering privileged insights into Peru as a cradle of civilization through masterpieces of its ancient cultures.
Dinner follows on the museum’s renowned rooftop terrace, with views over lush gardens.
DAY 3
Following breakfast at the hotel meet your guide to discover why Lima is celebrated as the gastronomic capital of South America. The experience begins in a traditional market, where the colors and aromas of fruits, herbs, and tubers reveal the extraordinary diversity of Peru’s regions and climates.
You will also visit specialized spaces dedicated to iconic products such as cacao, coffee, and pisco, learning how these ingredients have become symbols of national identity.
A hands-on cooking demonstration follows, guided by a local chef who will introduce us to Peru’s most emblematic dishes and the stories behind them.
In the afternoon, continue to Barranco, Lima’s bohemian district, where contemporary galleries and local design spaces coexist with historic mansions and seaside views. Walking through its vibrant streets, you will explore both the creative pulse of the city and the echoes of its past, making this a day of full immersion into Lima’s flavors, art, and culture.

Construction began in 1540, and the convent was later renovated to its present neo-classical style in the 18th century. It is a city within a city of sorts, comprised of a succession of cloisters and yards surrounded by service areas and communal rooms. Spanish Saint San Juan Masias is buried in the convent.
Following this tour of some of the city’s most historic spots, proceed to your hotel for check in and overnight. Dinner is included at the hotel this evening.
DAY 2
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to and visit Huaca Mateo Salado, a monumental, pre-Hispanic archaeological complex in the middle of a residential area. Its five stepped and truncated pyramids as well as the considerable size of the complex (16.4 hectares), make it one of the most important archaeological complexes on the central coast of Peru.
Continue to Museo Amano which houses a valuable collection of textiles from pre-Hispanic civilizations and then visit a modern home containing the treasures of the Luna Elias-Polo family, who will greet you and show off their extensive collection of Nativity scenes from Peru and around the world.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the quaint Barranco district where one stately mansion after another comes into view. This area is known for its rich cultural history and artistic atmosphere.
Nearby visit the unique Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs) where lovers gather for love promises. This iconic wooden pedestrian bridge was built in 1877 out of the necessity to connect both sides of the ravine. Its architecture is simple, yet over time it has become one of the most romantic spots in the city of Lima and an inspiration for numerous legends, songs, and poems.
As this day of discovery comes to an end, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a picturesque drive to the outskirts of Lima to explore the ruins of Pachacamac. This large excavated pre-Columbian complex of buildings includes an extraordinary pyramid and temples and a highly sophisticated irrigation and reservoir system. Pachacamac may have been the site of an oracle, as pilgrims visited for centuries.
For a more contemporary look at life in the country, you will visit an estate where Peruvian Paso horses are bred. Known for its unique high stepping and comfortable gait, the Peruvian Paso horse has become a symbol for the coastal region of Peru. The horses will display their skills as you learn about their origins and uses over lunch.
Upon returning to the hotel, you will enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure with dinner on your own.
DAY 4
After breakfast at the hotel and checking out, you will be transferred to the Lima International Airport based on the flight details provided. Check out time is at 12:00pm.
