Land Programs & Hotels

  • Explore beautiful Cape Town, with so much to offer, including Penguin Beach, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Groot Constantia Wine Estate, Stellenbosch Winelands and Table Mountain with your hotel located in the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival into Cape Town, you are met at the airport and transferred by private vehicle to your overnight hotel, located inside the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront – home to so many restaurants, shops and plenty of entertainment – something for everyone including boat cruises (ferries and sunset catamaran cruises), the Big Wheel, Two Oceans Aquarium, Zeitz Mocaa and more.

Check into your hotel on arrival (2:00pm) and spend the remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure. Any meals are on your own today.

Should you have an early arriving flight, you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is ready for occupation upon arrival. Day rooms can only be purchased directly with the hotel.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and embark on a full day discovery tour.

Start off with a scenic drive past the seaside suburbs of Camp’s Bay, Clifton and Llundudno and onto Hout Bay. Continue over scenic Chapma’s Peak, providing phenomenal photo opportunities. Then onto Boulders Beach to view the African Penguins in their natural habitat.

Thereafter, continue onto Groot Constantia Wine Estate. Groot Constantia wine farm is testimony of how one man’s love for wine established South Africa’s first wine farm in 1685. In a word, their wines are from rich African soil, crafted to perfection. Furthermore, their heritage stands for growth, life and beauty.

During your visit to Groot Constantia, you may explore the original Cape Dutch Manor House; visit the famed Cloete Cellar (the birthplace of Grand Constance) for a self-guided tour and enjoy a wine and chocolate tasting experience. You will also take home a souvenir branded wine glass.

Enjoy a delicious three course lunch at Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia Wine Estate.

Thereafter, embark on a short transfer to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens – acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through these beautiful gardens. Consider a walk on and over the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway - a new curved steel and timber bridge that winds and dips its way through and over the trees of the Arboretum. Inspired by a snake skeleton, it is informally called ‘The Boomslang’ (meaning tree snake).

The Walkway takes you from the forest floor into and through the trees and bursts out above the canopy, giving spectacular panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains, Garden and Cape Flats.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own today.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and embark on a full day Winelands discovery tour.

Take a scenic drive to JC Le Roux where the tasting room at the House of J.C. Le Roux offers a range of tastings and specially crafted parings for the most sophisticated of palates - both sweet and dry. Here you will enjoy a cheesecake and sparkling wine pairing.

Next, take a short drive to Muratie Wine Estate located on steep slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. Here time stands still, and centuries of fascinating stories live on. Immerse yourself in the tastes, the sights, the sounds and the warm welcome of a truly authentic Cape wine farm.

Located in the Knorhoek Valley north of Stellenbosch, Muratie dates back to 1685 when it was granted by Simon van der Stel, then Governor of the Cape of Good Hope, to German soldier Laurens Campher. Through the centuries Muratie, one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa, had several other colourful owners and is currently under the stewardship of the Melck family, who are deeply rooted here.

Their guiding philosophy is to preserve this rich history and cultural heritage and share it with wine lovers from around the world. Equally important, is to build a future legacy of dedication to excellence.

Here you will enjoy estate wines (a variety of white and red wine) followed by a delicious lunch.

Thereafter enjoy free time in the town of Stellenbosch, including an optional visit to Stellenbosch Museum (entry fee). The Stellenbosch Village Museum currently comprises of four houses of historical interest and their gardens.

Each of these beautiful homes represents a different period in the architectural development of Stellenbosch. The houses, their interiors and their gardens have been wonderfully restored, furnished, planted and decorated to illustrate the particular style and taste of the time.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own this evening.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast and check-out formalities, depart the hotel for a drive up Kloof Nek, to the saddle between Table Mountain and Lion's Head, en-route to the Lower Cableway Station. Upon arrival at Lower Table Mountain Road, board a Swiss-engineered rotair cable car, and ascend from the 1,190-foot Valley Station to the 3,477-foot Mountain Station.

The journey from the base to the summit takes just under four minutes and offers spectacular views as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent. From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board.

This area is home to one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size; its impressive 2,285 plant species are greater in quantity than those of the entire U.K. combined.

Following your visit to Table Mountain, re-board your vehicle for a drive to the cruise terminal where you will embark the ship.

The day is at your leisure with all meals on your own.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your hiking guide in the lobby of your hotel take a short transfer to Table Mountain. After a safety briefing and donning your gear, the group will hike up the side of Table Mountain. The starting point of the hike depends on the weather and wind conditions on the day.

The Platteklip Gorge hike is the quickest, easiest and most direct route to the summit of Table Mountain and therefore also the most popular. The approximate 2-mile route follows a well-constructed trail up a deep ravine on the iconic front face of the mountain. The average time to complete the hike is approximately 2-2.5 hours but it depends on your starting point. It is a challenging hike that gets steeper the higher you go. Be prepared for steps, inclines, boulders and little to no shade. Technical skills are not required but this is not recommended for beginner hikers, and it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids along the way.

The lower section leads up beside a stream, reduced to a trickle in summer (November to February), but gushing in winter (June to August). Further up, the gorge narrows between imposing cliffs. The setting gets more dramatic as the sidewalls close in, almost converging at the top and barely allowing access to the summit through a two-meter-wide corridor. The route offers stunning city and harbor views, restricted in the upper section by the sidewalls. Vegetation is fynbos (endemic shrub) with a patch of indigenous Afro-montane forest about a quarter of the way up.

Once you’ve reached the top, take some time to appreciate the magnificent views, savor a cold beverage and then take the cable car down to where your vehicle and driver await your return. Note: There are restrooms at the cable car station.

Transfer to a local restaurant and enjoy a well-deserved lunch followed by free time on Camp’s Bay or Clifton Beach, before returning to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

Note: Guests should wear good and comfortable hiking shoes or boots (non-slip, with grip and good ankle support), hat, sunscreen and bring a small backpack to carry water

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and depart for Simon’s Town where your ‘Penguin Paddle’ (kayaking) await you.

The African Penguin Colony at Boulders beach, Simonstown, is one of few land-based Penguin Colonies in South Africa where over 2500 birds are found.

Launch into the cool, clear, sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean, feel the spray of the salt-water dripping off the end of your paddle as you paddle your way through the rocky pools and outcrops around Boulders Beach. As the sun warms your shoulders, penguins skim the water below you, diving and dancing in the waves. Using stable, easy to paddle, two-man kayaks, explore the crystal waterways of this fascinating Penguin colony with your kayaking guide.

Please note: Paddling with Penguins involves kayaking on the ocean. Simonstown is a windy area in summer. Paddling into the wind is physically demanding, therefore guests need to be in good physical condition.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the area before moving to Cape Point Nature Reserve where you can visit both the spot where the two oceans meet and also take an optional walk up to the Cape Point Lighthouse for fantastic photo opportunities of the ocean and the cliffs.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon where a hospitality desk will be set up to help you plan your next day. There are plenty of options to sign up for (at own additional cost) and include but are not limited to Shark Cage Diving in Gansbaai, day safari’s, cycling in the Winelands and much more.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

Note: Guests should wear a bathing suit and cover up and shoes that can get wet (ideally not flip flops), also a hat and sunscreen. Bring a towel with and an extra set of clothing in case you get wet while on the kayaks.

    DAY 4

After breakfast the day is at your leisure. Our hospitality desk team will be available again this morning to help you plan your day.

Alternatively, you may wish to simply enjoy a day at leisure perhaps making a visit to Zeits Mocaa (local art museum), having some retail therapy, hiring a bicycle for a leisurely ride in and around the waterfront and its adjoining areas, visiting the SA Museum or District Six Museum or enjoying high tea at the Mount Nelson to name a few. The choice is yours!

Lunch and dinner are on your own today.

    DAY 5

This morning, perhaps consider a sunrise hike up Lions Head or a stroll along the Sea Point promenade with a freshly brewed cup of coffee before checking out and proceeding to the port where you will embark the ship.

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person, excess luggage (1 piece per person) will be shipped via courier to Johannesburg where you will be re-united with it on Day 5. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Upon arriving in Victoria Falls, proceed through Customs and Immigration. You will then be met and transferred to the Victoria Falls Hotel. Note: Visas are required for Zimbabwe and can be purchased at the airport upon arrival.

After check-in, transfer to the Zambezi River and embark on a sunset cruise (shared departure). Depending on the size of the group the boat may either be a covered single level sightseeing boat or a larger boat with multiple levels. Enjoy a beverage from this vantage point whilst watching the sunset and possibly sighting hippos, crocodiles, various birdlife and maybe even an elephant or two along the banks of the river.

Your boat cruise is followed up with dinner back at the hotel.

    DAY 3

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Victoria Falls Rainforest where you will have a guided walk.

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest curtain of falling water, based on the falls’ one-mile width and height of 360 feet. It’s an amazing spectacle to watch as the Zambezi River roars over the edge of a basalt gorge, forming what locals call Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the smoke that thunders”. In November 1885, after seeing the falls for the first time, Scottish explorer and Doctor David Livingstone re-named them after Queen Victoria.

A path along the edge of the rainforest provides visitors with an unparalleled series of views of the falls but be prepared to get wet from the tremendous spray!

NOTE: the cobblestone walkways within the rainforest can be slippery if wet and some spots are at a gradient. Proper walking shoes that have a good grip should be worn, and guests should wear appropriate clothing to get wet. Due to the amount of walking and terrain, this program is not suited for guests who have walking difficulty or who utilize a wheelchair or scooter. Walking distance will be 2-4km (1.24 – 2.48 miles).

Continue by road across the Zimbabwe – Botswana border to Chobe Chilwero. Your lodge is located on the Chobe River, not far from the entrance to Chobe National Park.

Check in, enjoy lunch at the lodge and then some free time to get acquainted with your surroundings.

A bit later in the day, gather in the main lodge for tea and snacks followed by a game drive in Chobe National Park. Safaris are conducted in 4x4 open side vehicles and led by qualified professional guides who will bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku and other animals that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Naturally, elephants, lion and leopard are also found in the area.

Return to your lodge thereafter for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 4

After an early-morning wake-up call and coffee and tea in the lobby, you will embark on a morning game drive in 4x4 open-air safari vehicles.

Along with elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, Chobe is also home to two antelope that aren’t encountered anywhere else in Botswana, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. Declared a national park in 1967, Chobe was the first one established in Botswana and now covers more than 4,500 square miles of dry savannah, floodplains, and teak woodlands that are ideal animal habitats.

Returning from your morning safari, a full breakfast will be served after which you will have free time to do as you wish at the lodge.

Following lunch, you will embark on a cruise down the Chobe River – this is the ideal time to keep a look out for animals coming to the river for water.

Later dinner will be served at the lodge.

    DAY 5

After enjoying one last optional game drive and breakfast, check-out from the lodge and transfer to the Kasane Airport for a flight to Johannesburg.

Upon arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, you will be met and assisted through passport control and baggage claim. You will then be escorted to your hotel where you will spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Your hotel is located within walking distance inside the terminal.

You will be reunited with any luggage that was shipped from Cape Town.

    DAY 6

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out time is 11:00am. You will be assisted on the walk to the Johannesburg Airport terminal based on your flight schedule. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel or alternatively you may wish to purchase an extra night to guarantee a room for the day.

    PLEASE NOTE

*This is a malaria risk area. Make sure that the necessary medication has been taken. Guests should seek their physicians’ advice regarding malaria precautions and other recommended immunizations. You must begin taking malaria precautions prior to your departure date.

*The contents and order of the activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife in the Chobe National Park.

*The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. This program is not recommended for guests with back problems.

*Bring warm clothing, as the evenings and early mornings are chilly.

*This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers and you will have a guide at Victoria Falls, however, the game drive and Chobe River cruise at the lodge and is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.

*The water levels at Victoria Falls are season dependent. ‘Low Water’ runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. This is the time when there is very little spray and visitors are able to fully appreciate the geological formation of Victoria Falls and the full length and breadth of them.

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer at hottest temperatures in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year. The average daily temperature is 30°C and nighttime temperatures can drop to approximately 14°C.

The arrival of the rains trigger a dispersal of game from the Chobe River area but the warm, rainy December to March summer months are the best time to visit Chobe for bird watching, the impala birthing season (great for predators!) and to see the Savute zebra migration.

In Zimbabwe and Botswana, during summer (October – April), days are hot and generally sunny in the morning with possible afternoon thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can rise to 30ºC (86 ºF) and night temperatures drop to around 14ºC (57.2 ºF) - 16ºC (60.8 ºF). The temperatures given are those for the main centers but it is considerably warmer all year round in the low-lying areas such as Kariba, Victoria Falls, and the Zambezi Valley. The rainy season runs from November to March, although the Eastern Highlands are damp for most of the year.

    What to Bring:

Light cotton tops and cotton trousers and shorts in summer. Safari trousers and warm fleece tops for evenings and cooler days. Swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, camera, film and chargers, personal toiletries and anti-malaria prophylaxis.

    Currency:

The monetary unit of South Africa is the Rand. All major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, although Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards.

In Zimbabwe, the unit of currency is the US Dollar

Credit card payments in Zimbabwe are subject to change on a daily basis. Currently, as only Visa cards are widely accepted here so we recommend that you travel with a small amount of US Dollars or SA Rand in cash, in small denominations, to pay for incidental expenses.

    Electricity:

South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts A/C 50 cycles. Most hotels have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms however we recommend bringing your own travel adaptor if you are bringing electric devices. Be aware that overnight charging may not be possible where generator use restricts the availability of electricity.

Outlets in Zimbabwe require a three-pronged adapter plug with 3 round prongs

Note: this program is limited to 30 guests.

    DAY 1

After disembarking in Cape Town, you will meet your guide for a brief city orientation tour en-route to the Grande Roche Hotel. This historic hotel boasts views of mountain ranges and rows of lush vineyards as well as having beautifully manicured gardens and innovative cuisine.

Upon arrival at your hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch on your own.

Check in is 2:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms ready before this time, this cannot be guaranteed, however, luggage can be stored at the reception desk so you can begin exploring the estate and its surrounds right away.

This evening, you will enjoy a wine pairing 3-course dinner at the hotel.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and then depart for a full-day tour of the Cape Winelands featuring Stellenbosch, the Town of Oaks and the second-oldest town in South Africa.

Stellenbosch is a university town famous for its carefully preserved architectural heritage, which includes examples of Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian styles, especially on Dorp Street, which is lined with houses, cottages and shops. Rows of oaks and open spaces transform the streets into soft, shady tunnels. The oaks have actually been proclaimed national monuments.

Starting in the Old Town center with your specialized “foodie” guide, your walking tour will focus on fresh, local, sustainably produced, and seasonal produce. In addition to its international wine reputation, Stellenbosch is also home to curated, public art exhibitions. During your leisurely walk you will savor the handiwork of both enthusiastic food artisans and celebrated artists in Stellenbosch. Throughout, your guide will entertain you with stories about the history and culture of the area.

Your tour includes sampling home-grown teas paired with typical Cape sweet treats, traditional beef snacks from a local butchery, local produced wines with appetizing delights and the walk will conclude at one of the oldest hotels in Stellenbosch for a delicious heritage platter.

After lunch, re-board your coach and head to Rickey Bridge Wine Estate. Founded in 1797, Rickety Bridge is one of the oldest wine farms in Franschhoek. Upon arrival you will be welcomed and will partake in a cheese and wine pairing followed by the unique opportunity to create a wine blend.

Start off by tasting four different wines, led by an experienced wine ambassador who will guide the group through the process showing how and why certain varieties harmonize better than others. You will then be challenged to create your own blend along with a personalized wine label.

After this fun and unique experience, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure with dinner on your own. If you wish, the hotel’s concierge can assist you in making arrangements for an unforgettable dinner off site or you may choose to dine in-house.

    DAY 3

Following a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and depart for a full-day tour to the Cape Winelands featuring Franschhoek.

The lush Franschhoek Valley and the Huguenot village of Franschhoek (“French Corner”) was originally known as Olifants Hoek (“Elephant’s Corner”) after elephants took to calving in the sheltered valley with its plentiful supply of food and water.

En-route, you will stop at Boschendal Wine Estate for a guided walking tour offering rare personal insight into the history of the farm, regenerative farming practices and sustainable gardening while experiencing and enjoying the beauty of the farm and its gardens. You will also be harvesting seasonal herbs from the herb garden. Comfortable shoes and hats are recommended as this is a 1.5-hour walking tour.

Following your farm tour, you will enjoy a wine tasting and then lunch at The Werf Restaurant.

You will then travel to the town of Franschhoek, where you have the option to visit to the Huguenot Monument, situated at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass, which commemorates the arrival of the Huguenots in South Africa. Alternatively, you may explore this quaint town on your own.

The tour ends with a nougat and sparkling wine tasting at Haute Cabriere or a similar venue.

Back at your hotel you will have some time to freshen up before a final wine pairing three-course group dinner.

    DAY 4

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. The official check-out time from the hotel is 11:00am. If a late check-out is required due to a late-departing outbound flight, a room cannot be guaranteed unless one is booked for another night. • Observe iconic African wildlife in Aquila Game Reserve, enjoy breathtaking views of Cape Town from atop Table Mountain and spend another day exploring the city on your own – all immensely fulfilling experiences.

    DAY 1

Disembark in Cape Town and meet your tour guide for a tour and transfer to your hotel. En-route, visit Table Mountain, the city’s most celebrated landmark!

Travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the lower cableway station. Ascend from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1 060 m) in a Swiss engineered Rotair cable car. The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and one can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent.

Table Mountain gets her name from the flat-topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil’s Peak on the left, Lion’s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheater that encloses the city center and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which run like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point – the cape from which Cape Town gets its name.

From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species – more than the entire U.K.

Upon descent, re-board your vehicle and transfer to your hotel. Check-in on arrival (official check-in time is 2:00pm). Although every effort will be made to have rooms available before this time this cannot be guaranteed.

Spend the afternoon at leisure. Consider a stroll to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront where shops, restaurants and entertainment are plenty. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Note: the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain is weather dependent. If not possible due to high winds a stop will be made at a viewing area near the cable car base for photos.

    DAY 2

Following an early breakfast at your hotel, depart on a 2.5-hour road transfer to Aquila Game Reserve or similar. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, followed by a 4 x 4 game drive, with an experienced nature guide. Thereafter, sit down to a delicious buffet lunch including two local beverages. After some free time to browse through the well-stocked curio shop, depart for a return transfer to Cape Town.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 3

Spend today at leisure, exploring the beautiful ‘Mother City’ at your own pace. Consider a ferry trip to Robben Island (individually made pre-bookings are essential via the Robben Island Ferry website), an open Red Top bus trip to numerous destinations, a hike up Lion’s Head, Wine tasting in the Winelands, or simply visiting numerous attractive beaches such as Camps Bay, Blouberg Beach or similar.

Make sure you are hungry for dinner as this evening you will join the group again for an African themed Farewell Dinner at GOLD Restaurant which includes an immersive 14-dish “taste-safari” and optional inter-active drumming. The tasting menu is designed to be enjoyed in a shared style and throughout the meal you will be learn about the country of origin, cooking techniques and spicing of each dish. (All meat, poultry and fish dishes come with vegan or vegetarian options). No doubt you will be swept up in the excitement as African stories are told through live entertainment while you dine including singing, puppetry and dancing to the beat of the djembe drums.

Following this lively dinner experience, you will be returned to your hotel.

    DAY 4

It is an extraordinary landscape that covers about a quarter of the national park. The guide will describe the massive salt pan in detail while pointing out the highlights.

During your time at the lodge, safaris and excursions will be tailored to suit your passion for adventure and each couple will have their own private guide. The options will be presented upon your arrival. You might track a rhino or a herd of elephants, observe a leopard climbing a jackleberry tree or simply experience the beauty of the savannah as the day unfolds. The choices will be entirely yours.

Dinner will be served at Omaanda Lodge, where you will spend the evening.

    DAY 5 – January 19, 2026

Today, breakfast will be served on the terrace with views of the savannah, after which you will check out and transfer to the airport for the flight to Johannesburg. You will be met at the airport in Johannesburg and assisted with your connecting flight to Port Elizabeth.
