Land Programs & Hotels

  • Fly to Zimbabwe to watch one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles—thundering Victoria Falls—and cruise the winding Zambezi River at sunset, a time when some of Africa’s most iconic animals are most active and easy to spot. Also take part in a day safari to the famous Chobe National Park where the Big Five are known to be abundant.

PLEASE NOTE – This PRE-Cruise Program begins in Johannesburg and therefore guests need to fly into Johannesburg, South Africa. Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Due to the amount of walking and terrain, this program is not suited for guests who have walking difficulty or who use a wheelchair or scooter.

    DAY 1

On arrival at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport, you will be met outside the Customs and Immigration area by a local representative and assisted on the short walk (approximately 300 yards/900 feet) from the airport terminal to your airport-based hotel.

The earliest check-in time allowed at the hotel is 2:00pm, although every effort will be made for your room to be available earlier.

Spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Any meals are on your own today.

    DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out meeting our local representative who will walk back to the airport terminal with you. Excess luggage storage (1 piece per person) will be available prior to checking in for your flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Note: the flight is not accompanied. Guests will need to purchase a visa for Zimbabwe in advance.

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person, excess luggage (1 piece per person – max 20 kg/44lbs) will be stored at the Johannesburg Airport from days 2-4 and it will be shipped via courier to Cape Town where you will be re-united with it on Day 4 at your hotel. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Upon arriving in the Victoria Falls airport, another local representative will meet and assist you with your transfer to the Victoria Falls Hotel where a light lunch (time permitting) will be enjoyed followed by check-in and some free time to explore the hotel and its grounds.

With dramatic views of the gorges of Zimbabwe's spectacular Victoria Falls, The Victoria Falls Hotel, built by the British in 1904, was originally conceived as accommodation for workers on the Cape-to-Cairo railway) and today it is a famous luxury brand and member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Steeped in history and one of the oldest hotels in Africa, The Victoria Falls Hotel serves is a reminder of the distinguished and elegant era to which it was born and has earned its status as the epitome of grand luxury travel.

Later in the afternoon, transfer to the Zambezi River and embark on a sunset cruise (shared departure). Depending on the size of the group the boat may either be a covered single level sightseeing boat or a larger boat with multiple levels. Enjoy a beverage from this vantage point whilst watching the sunset and possibly sighting hippos, crocodiles, various birdlife and maybe even an elephant or two along the banks of the river.

Following the cruise, return to your hotel for dinner at the Livingstone Room.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet our local representative who will journey with you on this day tour to Chobe, Botswana (border crossing).

Visiting Chobe National Park is a journey into the heart of Botswana’s wildlife wonderland – Chobe National Park is well known for its large herds of elephant that frequent the Chobe River daily. Apart from the herds of elephants, Chobe has a lot more to offer, the park has lion, leopard and many other renowned wildlife.

Your tour includes a boat safari on Chobe River, a game drive in Chobe National Park and lunch at one of the local lodges. Return to Victoria Falls in the afternoon (border crossing).

This evening, enjoy an off-site Boma Dinner which is an enchanting culinary experience that tantalizes the senses and celebrates the rich traditions of Zimbabwean culture. As you enter the open-air boma, you will be greeted with the rhythmic beats of traditional music and the warm glow of crackling fires. The atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, with the scent of grilled meats wafting through the air. Seated around a central fire pit, adorned with tribal artifacts and decor, you will be treated to a feast for both the palate and the soul.

Return to your hotel in Victoria Falls (border crossing).

    DAY 4

After breakfast and check-out, you will be met and transferred to the Victoria Falls Rainforest where you will have a guided walk.

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest curtain of falling water, based on the falls’ one-mile width and height of 360 feet. It’s an amazing spectacle to watch as the Zambezi River roars over the edge of a basalt gorge, forming what locals call Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the smoke that thunders.” In November 1885, after seeing the falls for the first time, Scottish explorer and Doctor David Livingstone re-named them after Queen Victoria.

A path along the edge of the rainforest provides visitors with an unparalleled series of views of the falls but be prepared to get wet from the tremendous spray!

After your tour of the Falls, transfer to the Victoria Falls airport for your flight to Cape Town. On arrival in Cape Town, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the evening. Note: the flight is not accompanied.

Your hotel is located nearby to the Victoria And Alfred Waterfront where you will find a wide array of shopping and dining options within steps of the hotel.

Guests will be reunited with any excess luggage that was stored in Johannesburg and shipped to Cape Town.

NOTE: the cobblestone walkways within the rainforest can be slippery if wet and some spots are at a gradient. Proper walking shoes that have a good grip should be worn, and guests should wear appropriate clothing to get wet. Due to the amount of walking and terrain, this program is not suited for guests who have walking difficulty or who utilize a wheelchair or scooter. Walking distance will be 2-4km (1.24 – 2.48 miles).

    DAY 5

Following a leisurely breakfast, complete check-out formalities and take a short drive to Lower Table Mountain Road where you will ascend the mountain by cable card and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the ‘Mother City’ from the top of Table Mountain –a bucket list site for many!

Re-board your vehicle and transfer to the harbour for embarkation.

Note: Ascending Table Mountain by cable car is weather dependent.

  • For nature-lovers looking to explore beautiful Cape Town in a more adventurous way, this program has been designed for you! Enjoy an invigorating hike up to the top of Cape Town’s landmark, Table Mountain; paddle with the penguins in Simon’s Town; and explore Cape Point Nature Reserve on foot plus enjoy a full day at leisure to explore on your own. Perhaps go shark cage diving in Gansbaai, take a 4x4 game drive in Aquila or even cycle through the Cape Winelands!

Due to the nature of this program, it is not available for guests who have mobility restrictions. Guests need to be able to hike distances with inclines and steps and manage a 2-person ocean kayak. Participants must be at least 12 years of age or more.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival into Cape Town, you are met at the airport and transferred by private vehicle to your overnight hotel, located inside the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront – home to so many restaurants, shops and plenty of entertainment. There really is something for everyone here including boat cruises (ferries and sunset catamaran cruises), the Big Wheel, Two Oceans Aquarium, Zeitz Mocaa (Museum of Contemporary Art) and more.

Hotel check-in is at 2:00pm. Should you be arriving earlier, you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is available upon your arrival. Otherwise, luggage storage will be available at Reception until your room is ready.

The day is at your leisure with all meals on your own.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your hiking guide in the lobby of your hotel take a short transfer to Table Mountain. After a safety briefing and donning your gear, the group will hike up the side of Table Mountain. The starting point of the hike depends on the weather and wind conditions on the day.

The Platteklip Gorge hike is the quickest, easiest and most direct route to the summit of Table Mountain and therefore also the most popular. The approximate 2-mile route follows a well-constructed trail up a deep ravine on the iconic front face of the mountain. The average time to complete the hike is approximately 2-2.5 hours but it depends on your starting point. It is a challenging hike that gets steeper the higher you go. Be prepared for steps, inclines, boulders and little to no shade. Technical skills are not required but this is not recommended for beginner hikers, and it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids along the way.

The lower section leads up beside a stream, reduced to a trickle in summer (November to February), but gushing in winter (June to August). Further up, the gorge narrows between imposing cliffs. The setting gets more dramatic as the sidewalls close in, almost converging at the top and barely allowing access to the summit through a two-meter-wide corridor. The route offers stunning city and harbor views, restricted in the upper section by the sidewalls. Vegetation is fynbos (endemic shrub) with a patch of indigenous Afro-montane forest about a quarter of the way up.

Once you’ve reached the top, take some time to appreciate the magnificent views, savor a cold beverage and then take the cable car down to where your vehicle and driver await your return. Note: There are restrooms at the cable car station.

Transfer to a local restaurant and enjoy a well-deserved lunch followed by free time on Camp’s Bay or Clifton Beach, before returning to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

Note: Guests should wear comfortable hiking shoes or boots (non-slip, with grip and good ankle support), hat, sunscreen and bring a small backpack to carry water

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and depart for Simon’s Town where your ‘Penguin Paddle’ (kayaking) await you.

The African Penguin Colony at Boulders beach, Simonstown, is one of few land-based Penguin Colonies in South Africa where over 2500 birds are found.

Launch into the cool, clear, sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean, feel the spray of the salt-water dripping off the end of your paddle as you paddle your way through the rocky pools and outcrops around Boulders Beach. As the sun warms your shoulders, penguins skim the water below you, diving and dancing in the waves. Using stable, easy to paddle, two-man kayaks, explore the crystal waterways of this fascinating Penguin colony with your kayaking guide.

Please note: Paddling with Penguins involves kayaking on the ocean. Simonstown is a windy area in summer. Paddling into the wind is physically demanding, therefore guests need to be in good physical condition.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the area before moving to Cape Point Nature Reserve where you can visit both the spot where the two oceans meet and also take an optional walk up to the Cape Point Lighthouse for fantastic photo opportunities of the ocean and the cliffs.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon where a hospitality desk will be set up to help you plan your next day. There are plenty of options to sign up for (at own additional cost) and include but are not limited to Shark Cage Diving in Gansbaai, day safari’s, cycling in the Winelands and much more.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

Note: Guests should wear a bathing suit and cover up and shoes that can get wet (ideally not flip flops), also a hat and sunscreen. Bring a towel with and an extra set of clothing in case you get wet while on the kayaks.

    DAY 4

After breakfast the day is at your leisure. Our hospitality desk team will be available again this morning to help you plan your day.

Alternatively, you may wish to simply enjoy a day at leisure perhaps making a visit to Zeits Mocaa (local art museum), having some retail therapy, hiring a bicycle for a leisurely ride in and around the waterfront and its adjoining areas, visiting the SA Museum or District Six Museum or enjoying high tea at the Mount Nelson to name a few. The choice is yours!

Lunch and dinner are on your own today.

    DAY 5

This morning, perhaps consider a sunrise hike up Lions Head or a stroll along the Sea Point promenade with a freshly brewed cup of coffee before checking out and proceeding to the port where you will embark the ship.

•The contents and order of the activities in this program are subject to change by the hotel and Chobe Zambezi Queen management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife along the Chobe River.

•Bring warm clothing, as the evenings and early mornings can be chilly.

•This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers and you will have a guide at Victoria Falls and in Cape Town, however, your time on the Zambezi Queen is not guided. The staff on the boat will advise your activity schedule.

•The water levels at Victoria Falls are season dependent. ‘Low Water’ runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. This is the time when there is very little spray, and visitors are able to fully appreciate the geological formation of Victoria Falls and the full length and breadth of them.

•Fishing tours from the Zambezi Queen are subject to the availability of fishing boats

•Photographic safaris from the Zambezi Queen are subject to the availability of the photographic boat

    •Animal sightings are not guaranteed

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer will have the hottest temperatures in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year.

The arrival rain triggers a dispersal of game from the Chobe River area but the warm, rainy December to March summer months are the best time to visit Chobe for bird watching, the impala birthing season (great for predators!) and to see the Savute zebra migration.

In Zimbabwe and Botswana, during summer (October – April), days are hot and generally sunny in the morning with possible afternoon thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can rise to 30ºC (86 ºF), and night temperatures drop to around 14ºC (57.2 ºF) - 16ºC (60.8 ºF). The temperatures given are those for the main centres, but it is considerably warmer all year round in the low-lying areas such as Kariba, Victoria Falls, and the Zambezi Valley. The rainy season runs from November to March, although the Eastern Highlands are damp for most of the year.

    What to Bring:

Light, cotton clothing, long sleeved shirts and trousers, a lightweight waterproof jacket, a good pair of walking or running shoes or hiking shoes, a wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, bathing suit.

    Local Currency:

In Cape Town and Johannesburg, the official currency is the South African Rand (ZAR).

All major credit cards are accepted.

The currency in Botswanan is the Pula (BWP) and in Namibia, the Namibian Dollar (NAD)

    Electricity:

South Africa and Botswana operate on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. Namibia and Zimbabwe operate on 220 volt electricity and is generated at 50Hz (Cycles) Alternating Current. We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter for electric devices.

*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. • Explore beautiful Cape Town, with so much to offer, including Penguin Beach, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Groot Constantia Wine Estate, Stellenbosch Winelands and Table Mountain with your hotel located in the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival into Cape Town, you are met at the airport and transferred by private vehicle to your overnight hotel, located inside the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront – home to so many restaurants, shops and plenty of entertainment – something for everyone including boat cruises (ferries and sunset catamaran cruises), the Big Wheel, Two Oceans Aquarium, Zeitz Mocaa and more.

Check into your hotel on arrival (2:00pm) and spend the remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure. Any meals are on your own today.

Should you have an early arriving flight, you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is ready for occupation upon arrival. Day rooms can only be purchased directly with the hotel.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and embark on a full day discovery tour.

Start off with a scenic drive past the seaside suburbs of Camp’s Bay, Clifton and Llundudno and onto Hout Bay. Continue over scenic Chapma’s Peak, providing phenomenal photo opportunities. Then onto Boulders Beach to view the African Penguins in their natural habitat.

Thereafter, continue onto Groot Constantia Wine Estate. Groot Constantia wine farm is testimony of how one man’s love for wine established South Africa’s first wine farm in 1685. In a word, their wines are from rich African soil, crafted to perfection. Furthermore, their heritage stands for growth, life and beauty.

During your visit to Groot Constantia, you may explore the original Cape Dutch Manor House; visit the famed Cloete Cellar (the birthplace of Grand Constance) for a self-guided tour and enjoy a wine and chocolate tasting experience. You will also take home a souvenir branded wine glass.

Enjoy a delicious three course lunch at Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia Wine Estate.

Thereafter, embark on a short transfer to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens – acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through these beautiful gardens. Consider a walk on and over the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway - a new curved steel and timber bridge that winds and dips its way through and over the trees of the Arboretum. Inspired by a snake skeleton, it is informally called ‘The Boomslang’ (meaning tree snake).

The Walkway takes you from the forest floor into and through the trees and bursts out above the canopy, giving spectacular panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains, Garden and Cape Flats.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own today.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and embark on a full day Winelands discovery tour.

Take a scenic drive to JC Le Roux where the tasting room at the House of J.C. Le Roux offers a range of tastings and specially crafted parings for the most sophisticated of palates - both sweet and dry. Here you will enjoy a cheesecake and sparkling wine pairing.

Next, take a short drive to Muratie Wine Estate located on steep slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. Here time stands still, and centuries of fascinating stories live on. Immerse yourself in the tastes, the sights, the sounds and the warm welcome of a truly authentic Cape wine farm.

Located in the Knorhoek Valley north of Stellenbosch, Muratie dates back to 1685 when it was granted by Simon van der Stel, then Governor of the Cape of Good Hope, to German soldier Laurens Campher. Through the centuries Muratie, one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa, had several other colourful owners and is currently under the stewardship of the Melck family, who are deeply rooted here.

Their guiding philosophy is to preserve this rich history and cultural heritage and share it with wine lovers from around the world. Equally important, is to build a future legacy of dedication to excellence.

Here you will enjoy estate wines (a variety of white and red wine) followed by a delicious lunch.

Thereafter enjoy free time in the town of Stellenbosch, including an optional visit to Stellenbosch Museum (entry fee). The Stellenbosch Village Museum currently comprises of four houses of historical interest and their gardens.

Each of these beautiful homes represents a different period in the architectural development of Stellenbosch. The houses, their interiors and their gardens have been wonderfully restored, furnished, planted and decorated to illustrate the particular style and taste of the time.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own this evening.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast and check-out formalities, depart the hotel for a drive up Kloof Nek, to the saddle between Table Mountain and Lion's Head, en-route to the Lower Cableway Station. Upon arrival at Lower Table Mountain Road, board a Swiss-engineered rotair cable car, and ascend from the 1,190-foot Valley Station to the 3,477-foot Mountain Station.

The journey from the base to the summit takes just under four minutes and offers spectacular views as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent. From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board.

This area is home to one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size; its impressive 2,285 plant species are greater in quantity than those of the entire U.K. combined.

Following your visit to Table Mountain, re-board your vehicle for a drive to the cruise terminal where you will embark the ship.

•The following program details are for reference purposes only and subject to change based on flights that can be confirmed at or around 60 days prior to sailing.

•Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below about airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

•This program involves walking approximately 1-2 miles over various terrain at Victoria Falls and guests must be able to get in and out of the safari vehicles with little to no assistance.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport, you will be met and assisted once you are through passport control and baggage claim. You will be escorted to your hotel where you will spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Your hotel is located within walking distance inside the airport terminal.

Check in time at your hotel is 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed. Should you have an early arriving flight you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is available upon arrival.

    DAY 2

After breakfast and check out, meet our local escort and walk back to the airport terminal to check in for a flight to Kasane, Botswana.

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person (20 kg/44 lbs), excess luggage (1 piece per person max 20 kg/44 lbs.) will be shipped via courier to Cape Town where you will be re-united with it on Day 5. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Upon arriving in Kasane, Botswana, proceed through Customs and Immigration and then another local representative will assist with your transfer to Chobe Game Lodge.

Established in 1973, Chobe Game Lodge is one of the most famous lodges in Botswana and the only permanent lodge located within the renowned Chobe National Park. This privileged location allows guests to be the first to enter the park every morning and the last to leave, providing photographers with a significant advantage.

Chobe offers an elegant five-star experience with 40 spacious and stylish rooms and guests can unwind in various bars and seating areas or by the pool, and you can choose from various dining areas. An incredible 250 meter boardwalk runs along the river and forms the focus of the lodge. Walking along the promenade or finding a seat along its length gives you the chance to peacefully (barring the grunting hippos) observe the wildlife without even getting into a car or boat.

If time allows, enjoy lunch and then some free time to get acquainted with your surroundings.

A bit later in the day, gather in the main area and then set out for your first game drive in Chobe National Park. Safaris are conducted in 4x4 vehicles that are covered but open on the sides and led by qualified professional guides who will bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku and other animals that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Elephants, lions and leopards are also found in the area.

Return to your lodge thereafter for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 3

After an early-morning wake-up call and coffee and tea in the lobby, you will embark on a morning game drive in 4x4 open-air safari vehicles.

Chobe was the first National Park established in Botswana and now covers more than 4,500 square miles of dry savannah, floodplains, and teak woodlands that are ideal animal habitats.

Returning from your morning safari, a full breakfast will be served after which you will have free time to do as you wish at the lodge.

Following lunch, you may wish to embark on a cruise down the Chobe River or an afternoon game drive – this is the ideal time to keep a look out for animals coming to the river for water.

Later dinner will be served at the lodge.

    DAY 4

After enjoying one last game drive and breakfast, check-out from the lodge and transfer across the border between Botswana and Zimbabwe by road and then onwards to Victoria falls. (Visas will need to be purchased for Zimbabwe in advance). The drive is approximately 1- 1.5 hours depending on border time.

On arrival at your hotel, enjoy a light lunch followed by check-in formalities. Spend the afternoon at leisure. You may wish to consider taking one of the numerous optional activities (at own cost) including visiting a local market or home, a helicopter flight over the falls and more. The concierge at your hotel will be able to provide you with the most up to date list of available options during your stay.

This evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on Zambezi (shared boat).

The cruise is followed by a riverside dining experience at your hotel which offers authentic African-style barbeque dining within an unparalleled setting on the edge of the Zambezi River. The experience also includes traditional entertainment and a welcome drink. (dinner outdoors is weather permitting).

    DAY 5

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Victoria Falls Rainforest where you will have a guided walk.

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest curtain of falling water, based on the falls’ one-mile width and height of 360 feet. It’s an amazing spectacle to watch as the Zambezi River roars over the edge of a basalt gorge, forming what locals call Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the smoke that thunders”. In November 1885, after seeing the falls for the first time, Scottish explorer and Doctor David Livingstone re-named them after Queen Victoria.

A path along the edge of the rainforest provides visitors with an unparalleled series of views of the falls but be prepared to get wet from the tremendous spray!

Following your visit, transfer to the Victoria Falls Airport for a flight to Cape Town via Johannesburg.

In Cape Town you will be met and transferred to your hotel which is located in the city center adjacent suburb of Gardens, within close proximity to the Company Gardens, South Africa Museum, Art galleries and more.

Lunch and dinner are on your own today.

Guests will be reunited with any excess luggage that was stored in Johannesburg and shipped to Cape Town.

    DAY 6

Following a leisurely breakfast, complete check-out formalities and take a short drive to Lower Table Mountain Road where you will ascend the mountain by cable card for a bird’s eye view of the ‘Mother City’ from the top of Table Mountain, a bucket list activity for many! Re-board your vehicle and transfer to the harbor for embarkation.

    PLEASE NOTE

•This is a malaria risk area. Please check with your physician regarding malaria precautions and other recommended immunizations. You must begin taking malaria precautions prior to your departure date.

•The contents and order of the activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife in the Chobe National Park.

•The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. This program is not recommended for guests with back or neck issues or for pregnant women.

•Bring warm clothing, as the evenings and early mornings can be chilly.

•This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers and you will have a guide at Victoria Falls, however, the game drives at the lodge are run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff. Flights are not accompanied.

•The water levels at Victoria Falls are season dependent. ‘Low Water’ runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. This is the time when there is very little spray, and visitors are able to fully appreciate the geological formation of Victoria Falls and the full length and breadth of them.

  • Experience the splendor of the Cape Winelands with a three-night stay in the charming town of Franschhoek. This tour provides multiple opportunities for curated food and wine tastings, including participation in the Wine & Cuisine Wine Tram excursion—an exceptional way to discover Franschhoek's culinary highlights. Conclude your visit with a cable car journey to Table Mountain, a renowned Cape Town landmark, before embarking on your cruise.

Note: This program is not recommended for guests who require use of a wheelchair or scooter. The Wine Tram is not accessible and the terrain is not always even at the wineries.

    DAY 1

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, clear Customs and immigration, collect your luggage and meet up with our representative for a private transfer to your luxury hotel in the quaint town of Franschhoek.

Check-in on arrival (official check-in time is 2:00pm).

At Le Quartier Francais, the suites and rooms offer luxury furnishings and are set in peaceful scented gardens. Each room features vibrant colors, unique decor, and amenities like fruit baskets, wine, and a stocked mini bar.

Spend the remainder of the day at leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.

Your stay at Le Quartier Francais includes access to several restaurants on the property (lunches and dinners are at own cost) along with the Great Heart Wine Boutique and Leeu Spa.

The chefs craft dishes inspired by the changing seasons, utilizing ingredients sourced predominantly from the Leeu estate's own vegetable gardens and orchards. Daily harvesting ensures that each meal benefits from a consistently high standard of freshness and quality.

Adjacent to the property is the Everard Read Gallery, showing the best modern and contemporary artworks by southern African artists. The gallery includes a sculpture garden for monumental works interspersed with herbs and vegetables, the first of its kind in South Africa. The fresh produce from the garden features on the menus of the Leeu Collection’s restaurants. The hotel is also located in the heart of Franschhoek therefore walking distance to all of the available boutique shops, restaurants, museums and more.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel and begin a full day Winelands discovery tour of Paarl & Stellenbosch.

Begin your experience with a visit to the Paarl Wine region, where you can participate in an elegant chocolate and wine pairing at The Courtyard of Nederburg Wine Estate. This setting offers refined ambiance and exceptional views of the historic Nederburg estate.

After your tasting and leisure time, visit Fairview Wine Estate for an informal cheese and wine tasting experience. Fairview operates as a working farm and hosts several micro-businesses committed to producing artisanal and sustainable goods, with a particular emphasis on premium wine and cheese.

From here, travel across towards the wine region of Stellenbosch where lunch will be enjoyed at Tokara Wine Estate and restaurant or similar, including estate wine.

Following lunch, enjoy free time in the town of Stellenbosch, home to the Dorpshuis Museum and a few quaint boutique shops.

In the afternoon, return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Dinner is on you own.

    DAY 3

Today, explore Franschhoek in the best way - by the Wine Tram whose departure point is within walking distance from your hotel. Your tour is the Wine and Cuisine Experience.

Make your way to the meeting point for the tram (3-4 minute walk around the corner from the hotel – a hotel shuttle can be provided should you not wish to walk – please advise our local team when you arrive should you require this option so it can be arranged)

Guided by a wine ambassador, you will hear about Franschhoek Valley’s history, wine, and culture. The itinerary includes food and wine pairings for breakfast, lunch, and dessert.

Begin with coffee and beignet, followed by breakfast and wine pairing. The Tram will then take you through the vineyards with sparkling wine and truffles provided along the ride.

Lunch is served at a selected Franschhoek wine estate, offering local wine and cuisine.

    Dessert follows, paired with wines.

The remainder of the day is then free for you to enjoy the facilities at Le Quartier Francais or explore Franschhoek independently. Dinner is on your own.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast and check-out formalities, depart for the Cape Town city centre where the cruise ship awaits.

Prior to boarding, travel via Kloof Nek, reaching the saddle situated between Table Mountain and Lion's Head, en route to the Lower Cableway Station.

Upon arrival at Lower Table Mountain Road, board a Swiss-engineered rotair cable car and ascend from the 1,190-foot Valley Station to the 3,477-foot Mountain Station. The ascent, which takes approximately four minutes, features panoramic views as the floor of the cable car rotates 360 degrees throughout both the ascent and descent.

At the summit, the natural reserve extending from Signal Hill to Cape Point is managed by the National Parks Board, which oversees one of the world's highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species for its size. Notably, this region contains 2,285 plant species—more than can be found in the entirety of the United Kingdom.

After some time to explore at the top, make your way back down and re-board your vehicle for a drive to the cruise terminal for embarkation.

Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)

1.Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) - Guests must obtain a Doctor’s Certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry a POC. Further paperwork may be required by the airline. Please advise RSSC of the specifics at least 14 days before sailing.

2.CPAP Machine NOT being used in flight – please advise RSSC at least 90 days before the program starts if you will bring a CPAP on the internal flight(s) used in this land program. Please supply the make, model and battery type.

3.CPAP Machine to be used during flight – same as above + a doctor’s note is required mentioning the need to use the machine during flight.

*Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding the CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of your manufacturer’s FAA-approval status will help to quickly clear any confusion that may arise.

    * Failure to provide the above details in a timely manner may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which Regent Seven Seas Cruises nor our local ground operator will be responsible for.

*Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While we can certainly request this for you, we cannot guarantee that it will be available. If received in a timely manner, requests will be sent on the final manifest that our ground operators and hotels receive. We highly recommend packing your own supply especially on programs that travel to more remote locations in order to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Lisbon and meet your guide. Begin with an exploration of Lisbon. Lying north of the River Tagus estuary and stretching over seven hills, Portugal's capital city has much to offer.

Explore the Belem district and see the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, an extraordinary example of Portugal's 'Manueline' style of architecture. Once populated by monks, the UNESCO-listed monastery was commissioned by King Manuel I to commemorate Vasco da Gama’s famous voyage to India in 1497.

Time permitting, see Torre de Belém (Belém Tower), one of Lisbon's most iconic buildings and symbolic of Portugal's great Age of Expansion.

Also enjoy a refreshment stop, where you may wish to sample the famous and scrumptious Pastéis de Belém (custard tarts).

Enjoy lunch in Lisbon and later transfer to Evora and check in to your hotel - Convento do Espinhero.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, check out and meet your guide for a journey to the enchanting walled town of Évora which is marked by Roman, Moorish, and Portuguese influences

Situated in the Alentejo region, this historic and architecturally rich town is home to a number of treasures. Cobbled streets tucked behind fortress walls, historic sights, and incredible dining make this UNESCO World Heritage Site (the city itself) a must-see.

During your tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral, or Sé, with its fortress-like appearance, as well as the Church of St Francis, which is one of the city's grandest churches after the Cathedral and well known for its blend of Gothic and Moorish styles and the Chapel of the Bones.

Marvel at the fourteen original granite Corinthian columns of the Roman Temple before exploring the Moorish arches and pretty alleyways in the town center. After having ample time on own to enjoy a lunch of local delicacies, a visit will be made to Évora University, the second oldest in the country and noted for its impressive architecture.

This evening, transfer to the Dark Sky Alqueva Observatory. Nestled in the heart of Alentejo, the Alqueva sky offers a breathtaking view, resembling a dark velvet canvas adorned with countless stars. As a certified Dark Sky® Reserve and "Starlight Tourism Destination," this protected area spans over 10,000 square kilometers.

Enjoy your visit to the official Dark Sky Observatory with a professional guide who will lead you through an unforgettable night sky tour. Using powerful telescopes, you will explore constellations, nebulae, star clusters, distant galaxies, planets, comets, binary systems, and colorful stars. The experience provides a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonders of the universe.

Note: The timing of the session varies based on sunset and daylight savings (start times between 7:30pm and 10:00pm).

    DAY 3

After breakfast, meet your guide. Nestled in the heart of Alentejo, experience the region’s deep-rooted connection to the land by visiting a traditional country estate.

Here, explore the property, interact with the animals and enjoy the scents and landscapes that define the area.

With a glass of local wine in hand, help gather fresh ingredients to prepare an authentic "alentejana" meal over an open fire, learning about local flavors, cheeses, and smoked meats along the way. This hands-on experience culminates in a shared meal, bonding over food, wine, and stories with your hosts.

Return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast, meet your guide and prepare to immerse yourself in nature during a leisurely trekking experience through the lush forest with the magnificent Serra D’Ossa hills as a backdrop. Get an in-depth look at its extraordinary biodiversity, considered one of the richest in Europe.

Apart from all the fauna and flora that live off the cork trees, do not be surprised to come across a wide variety of wildlife, including boar, mongoose, hares and many species of birds.

After the walking tour, discover the world of Herdade da Maroteira wines on a guided tour of the estate, where you will visit the winery and tasting room. Enjoy a tasting of Maroteira wines, accompanied by Iberian pork ham and cheese.

At the end of the morning, enjoy lunch in a typical Alentejo restaurant, with a traditional menu showcasing the foods of the region, accompanied by Alentejo wines of course!

After lunch, transfer to Lisbon and check in to your hotel – One Palacio da Anunciada.

Note: The walking route of the working farm is easy and mostly flat, however and depending on weather, the path may be muddy as it follows farm tracks. The experience is not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. In case of heavy rain, 4x4 transportation throughout the farm will be provided. Guests should wear hiking boots or shoes that you do not mind getting dusty or muddy.

    DAY 5

After breakfast and check out, you will have a private transfer to Lisbon’s international airport.

The hotel check-out time is 10:00am. Should you have a late departing flight you may wish to book an extra night to guarantee late check out or you may choose to store luggage at Reception.

*If you are traveling with other guests (on a separate cruise booking) who are on the same program and wish to share an airport transfer (same flight departure only), please advise RSSC no later than 95 days before the program start date. Otherwise, a van will be used for bookings of two guests and a sedan for solo travelers.
