Land Programs & Hotels

  • Experience the magic of Copenhagen—Denmark’s vibrant capital and cultural heart—where ancient history meets royal grandeur. From its Stone Age roots and Viking legends to regal castles and lively waterways, the city offers a journey through centuries of remarkable heritage. Discover iconic museums and memorials, explore Denmark’s connections to the Arctic, and let Copenhagen’s timeless charm captivate you from the moment you arrive.

    Special notes:

•Due to the amount of walking over varied terrain, this program is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions and is not available for guests who rely on a wheelchair or scooter as many sites are not accessible.

•If you have any food intolerances or special dietary needs, please contact the Regent Reservations Team prior to your departure. It is important that your land program extension reflects these details so our local vendors can ensure smooth and enjoyable dining experiences.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival at Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH) you will be greeted once you have gone through Customs, Immigration and baggage claim and then transferred by private vehicle to your centrally located hotel.

Check-in time at the hotel is 3:00pm. Should you have an early arriving flight you may wish to book an extra night so your room is available upon arrival.

Take some time to relax after your journey or perhaps begin exploring the city independently before the program starts. An RSSC Hospitality Desk will be available at the hotel for any assistance. Meals are on your own today.

Note: Couples or cruise bookings with two guests will transfer by private van and solo travelers will transfer by private sedan. Vans hold a maximum of 4 pieces or large luggage and 2 carry on pieces per person and sedans hold a maximum of 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. Transfers are with driver only.

    DAY 2

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel, followed by meeting your guide in the hotel lobby.

Your tour then commences with a drive to City Hall Square, where you will appreciate both the exterior and select interior aspects of Copenhagen City Hall, complemented by informative commentary from your guide. Guests may subsequently explore the interior independently, subject to access restrictions due to official events.

Proceed on foot to Glyptoteket for a guided tour, featuring the special exhibition “Carl’s Great Love” and additional notable museum collections. The Glyptotek is the leading antiquities museum of the Nordic countries and also has one of Europe's finest collections of French art from the period 1800-1930.

Continue by vehicle to New Harbor (Nyhavn) and Royal Square, where a leisurely walk provides the opportunity to experience the area's vibrant ambiance and iconic architecture. The itinerary then advances to the King’s Garden and Rosenborg Castle; observe the ceremonial departure of the guards and participate in a professionally guided tour of Rosenborg Castle, with time allocated afterward for souvenir shopping in the museum boutique.

After lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon features a private boat tour through Copenhagen’s scenic canals, offering distinctive perspectives of the city’s landmarks from the water.

Conclude the tour with a return to your hotel. Dinner and the remainder of the evening will be at your leisure.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide and depart for a full-day tour focused on Viking history and memorial sites related to Greenlandic pioneers and polar explorers, highlighting the historical connections between Greenland and Denmark.

Begin the tour in Copenhagen with visits to the memorials of Mylius Eriksen and Ejnar Mikkelsen, where information about their contributions is provided. Along the harbour, learn about Poq and Qiperoq, Greenlanders who visited the city in 1724.

Proceed next to Roskilde, a city known for its Viking heritage. During the drive, receive information about Erik the Red and Viking navigation to Greenland. Visit the Viking Ship Museum to view ancient vessels and exhibits that present Denmark’s maritime history and Greenland’s links to Denmark.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Roskilde, featuring Danish cuisine with an opportunity to discuss the morning’s topics.

The itinerary continues to Hundested, a coastal town, with a visit to the home of Knud Rasmussen, a polar explorer. The site displays personal items, expedition artifacts, and information about his work and life during the early 20th century.

A short break in Hundested allows free time for refreshments such as coffee or ice cream, and the opportunity to explore the area a bit on your own.

At the end of the day, travel back to Copenhagen where the remainder of the evening is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 4

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out and baggage pull. Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and then board your coach for the day’s sightseeing.

Your first stop is Frederik’s (Marble) Church, possibly with an inside visit (subject to confirmation). Afterwards, take a short walk to Amalienborg Royal Residence to enjoy an exterior view and witness the Changing of the Royal Guard ceremony.

Note: The interior visit of the church is subject to additional confirmation, as the church may be closed to the public during services such as weddings, funerals, or other ceremonies.

Continue with a drive to the Gefion Fountain for a photo stop, followed by a walk along the waterfront to the iconic Little Mermaid statue - a perfect spot to bid farewell to Copenhagen and make a wish to return one day.

Finally, drive to the cruise terminal for embarkation, ready to begin your next adventure.

    Expected Weather:

Copenhagen’s climate is temperate maritime, with mild summers and damp, cool winters. The coldest months, January and February, average 0–3°C (32–37°F) and feature short days and occasional snow. Spring warms up gradually, reaching 16°C (61°F) by May. Summer is pleasant at 19–22°C (66–72°F) but often rainy. Autumn temperatures drop from 17°C (63°F) to 6°C (43°F), with more rain and less daylight. December averages 3–4°C (37–39°F). Rainfall is consistent year-round, and coastal winds can add a chill.

    What to Bring:

Pack layers, a waterproof jacket with hood, and comfortable walking shoes. Coastal winds can make it feel colder than the forecast. Also bring sunglasses, camera and chargers.

    Local Currency:

The local currency is the Danish Krone (DKK). Cards and mobile payments are accepted almost everywhere, and cash is rarely needed, though ATMs are widely available.

    Electricity:

Type K & E/F sockets, Voltage: 230V. We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter for electric devices.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

Denmark is part of the Schengen Area. Travelers from the EU/EEA and Switzerland need only a valid ID card or passport.

Citizens of many other countries (including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Japan) can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days. Nationals of countries that require a visa must apply for a Schengen visa in advance. A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond departure from Schengen is recommended.

The above information is subject to change and serves as a guide only. It is the ultimate and sole responsibility of the guest to ensure they meet the entry requirements for each destination.

If traveling internationally, the countries you are flying to and/or connecting through may have different document requirements and as such we encourage you to visit the government and airport websites of every country you will be traveling to throughout the journey to familiarize yourself with their requirements.

    Accommodation:

    NH Collection Copenhagen

Address: Strandgade 7, 1401 Copenhagen, Denmark

*Hotel substitutions will only occur in the event of unforeseen circumstances. There may also be a need to climb steps or stairs on occasion. Guests who utilize a wheelchair and those with mobility concerns are advised to check with the cruise line in advance to see if any portion of the tour program may not be considered suitable for their individual situation. Weather appropriate clothing; hats; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are generally recommended.

Please note: All land programs are capacity controlled and subject to availability. Programs falling under the minimum number of required participants are subject to cancellation. After flying into Copenhagen, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle from the airport to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Previously the city’s main post office, the Villa Copenhagen Hotel sits right next to Tivoli Gardens and is filled with Scandinavian contemporary art. During your stay you might choose to enjoy the roof-top outdoor, heated lap pool and bar and don’t miss the on-site bakery serving fresh bread, traditional treats and coffee to locals and guests alike.

Welcome Desk depending on number of guests booked

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. A sedan will be used for solo guests, which can hold 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.

    DAY 2

After breakfast, start the day with a unique visit to the ByBi honey factory and learn about all the work they are doing with bees in and around Copenhagen. They encourage residents to follow their model and become beekeepers to cultivate a regenerative system where bees, flowers and humans thrive. You will learn about their efforts while touring the factory. Sampling honey produced in different parts of Copenhagen will clearly demonstrate how the tastes vary by location and environmental factors.

A hands-on cooking class follows, during which you will learn to make smørrebrød, a traditional Danish open-faced sandwich. This national dish is more complex than it may sound, as there is a whole culture around how to make and eat one of these layered rye bread sandwiches, which you will have for lunch.

Canals are abundant in Copenhagen and there’s no better way to see Denmark’s capital than by cruising the waterways after lunch. Along the way, you will see some of the city’s stunning architecture, which the guide will describe in detail. You will also notice the many urban parks and green spaces, which provide a natural habitat for birds and bees, especially honeybees.

Next take a peek at the theatrical side of Copenhagen on an insider’s tour of the Danish Royal Theatre. Its architectural elements are extraordinary, particularly the ceiling paintings, so be sure to look up. You will also see what goes on behind the scenes as you explore the backstage and the rooms where the theatrical costumes are created. Peering into Queen Margrethe’s private salon will be among the highlights.

Return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and evening are at your leisure. Dinner is on your own.

Note: Should the Royal Danish Theatre not be available, it will be substituted with a visit with either a Copenhagen Opera House and Royal Playhouse tour or a visit to the DAC (The Danish Architectural Center).

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will venture into the outskirts to explore the island of Funen, home to the Renaissance-era Egeskov Castle. Although a noble family lives in the castle, they open it to the public during the day. As you meander through the elegant interior, you may view the banquet hall, the music room and the Victorian room, whose furnishings reflect the family’s heritage.

The castle grounds are just as magnificent as you will discover while walking through the park-like gardens. The castle parks at Fredensborg and Frederiksborg, as well as those of Versailles, inspired the nearly 300-year-old garden design. Hedges, some as high as 25 feet, separate the various themed gardens.

Continuing on, you will head to Odense for lunch before exploring the city. As an introduction to its allure, you will visit the home of famed author Hans Christian Andersen, who was born in Odense. You can expect it to be a fascinating journey into his creative universe and beloved fairy tales such as “The Little Mermaid” and The Ugly Duckling.” By the end of the tour, you will have gained a much deeper understanding of the author and what inspired his creativity.

Although Odense is synonymous with Andersen, you will discover its other charms during free time. The downtown invites walking and there are plenty of shops and attractions worth a look.

After your independent exploration of Odense, you will return to your hotel. The remainder of the evening will be at leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you will visit the fishing village of Dragør, which was founded in the 12th century as a garden area that grew produce for the royal family. Over time, herring fishing and processing became a more important enterprise. While walking through the narrow, pedestrian-only streets, you will see dozens of well-preserved buildings from the 18th and 119th centuries.

Around midday, you will transfer to the port to embark on your cruise.

Continue to the historic town of Gouda, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch at your leisure before a guided walk through the picturesque streets. Get a taste of some Gouda cheeses at one of the many cheese stores. Delight in a hands-on Stroopwafel workshop to learn how to make this sweet snack and savor coffee or tea at a local bakery.

Return to your hotel enriched by the day’s unique experiences. Dinner is on own,

    Day 3

Your day starts with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a short coach transfer to the world-renowned Rijksmuseum which showcases Dutch art and history, featuring masterpieces like Rembrandt's The Night Watch. A private guide will lead you through the highlights of the museum during a 1,5-hour guided visit.

Afterwards, take a short stroll to the canal boat pontoon, where a private saloon boat awaits you for a nearly two-hour cruise along Amsterdam’s canals.

After disembarking the boat, take a guided walk through the city center. This is followed by an afternoon at leisure. Perhaps linger over lunch, browse the shops, or explore other museums such as the Rembrandt house, Van Gogh Museum, the Hermitage or the Jewish Historical Museum.

    Day 4

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before settling your incidentals and checking out. A private transfer will be arranged based on the flight details provided, to bring you to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Check out time is at 12:00pm. Should you have a later departing flight you may leave your luggage with Reception until your check out time.
