Founded in 1066, Bergen was Norway's largest center for commerce and shipping until the 1830s.
Your tour commences with a drive along Bryggen and the Hanseatic Pier, where you’ll spy old wooden warehouses from the Hanseatic period. Next, you'll pass the main sights of the city, including Haakons Hall. Erected during the reign of King Haakon Haakonsson from 1247-1261, it was the largest and most imposing building of the royal residence during a time when Bergen was the political hub of Norway. You'll continue on past Rosenkrantz Tower, built as a combination fortress and residence around 1560 AD.
You’ll also view Bergen's oldest building, Mary's Church, dating back to the 12th century, and Grieg Hall, where the renowned Bergen Music Festival takes place every May.
Afterward, you can either take a short drive back to the pier or opt to browse the market and historic shops along the Hanseatic Pier, returning to the ship at your leisure.
Please note: This tour is panoramic and includes no stops or visits. It is available to wheelchair guests with a collapsible wheelchair who are able to get on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned only to participate to the extent of their personal stamina and ability. A windbreaker or light jacket and comfortable, flat shoes are suggested.
